Creating a Coupon for Discount AND Free Shipping

Is there a way to create a coupon that gives both free shipping AND a discount? Or could you do it with a gift certificate?

Discount Coupons are for a monetary discount on the order or for free shipping ...

They cannot, at this time, be used for both in the same coupon ...

Gift Certificates are Cash ... they are not the same as Discount Coupons ... Cash never expires ...

My client offers free shipping on all products. He also wants to give a 10% discount at checkout. The catalog must show the retail price.

Since I discovered I could not mark the products "Free Shipping" and also assign a group discount, here's what I did.

Set the shipping price to zero.
Set up 10% group discount
Set up a coupon code for a 10% discount for new customers
Changed all products from "Yes, always free shipping" to "No, Normal Shipping Rules" (Otherwise, the discount will not apply at checkout.)
Mark each customer signing in for the group discount. (Not the best, because I want each new customer to automatically get the discount.)

I'm hoping ZenCart will be changed to allow discounts and free shipping on each product simultaneously. At some point, my client will want to add products that are less than his $50 limit for free shipping, but retain the 10% discount for orders over $50. I don't seem to be able to have both.

I'm still looking for a way to give each new customer the 10% discount on sign up.

Hope this can help someone with a similar situation.

Although a very old thread, are there any updates on this issue? It's common for sellers to offer both discount AND free shipping. I did that and printed out discount coupons before I launched my website, but now having difficulties making those codes valid on my site. :(

Any way to restrict an ordinary free shipping discount coupon to only allow for one type of shipping, such as USPS first class? After setting up this ordinary free shipping discount coupon, I noticed in checkout that it will allow (or imply anyway) that Priority and Express shipping choices, for example, also get free shipping..

The specific Free Shipping method is an illusion ... it is just taking the selected shipping method and making that the amount of the discount ...

You can, however, customize this so that if the Discount Coupon makes the shipping Free, then instead of just "any shipping method" being used that it "re-sets" the shipping method ...

I believe that I have posted this before ... unfortunately, I am feeling pretty under the weather and cannot think very clearly to remember how I did this ... :blink:
