Featured Products - number on display

I'm puzzled - I have Maximum Display of Featured Products - Main Page set to 9, and the no of columns per row set to 3. I have 6 featured products but only 1 row of 3 is showing on the main page.

I know I'm having a bad day today! What have I failed to do? :dontgetit

Are the 6 featured products all active?

Re: Featured Products - number on display

Yes - but by that I mean the client (who's "helping") has not put in start/expiry dates - ARE they active?

Re: Featured Products - number on display

And now they all have start and stop dates and I can confirm that they're all turned on...still only 3. I don't know if it'll help, but the site is here

Ryk-

Not sure if this is part of the problem or not - but I went to the w3c html validator and got a bunch of errors.

Re: Featured Products - number on display

and you haven't got a custom override copy of includes/modules/featured_products.php?

I can't see anything in the v1.3.0.1 code that could be causing the problem.

Re: Featured Products - number on display

Yep - this is a nightmare. It was inherited set up with some overrides, some plain overwrites - THEN it was passed on to me due to illness; heaven knows how long it's been in the making, but I'm still trying to figure out how to tell him that he should really start all over again!

However, if there is no obvious reason why only 3 featured products appear then it's another reason to reconsider!

Thanks for having a look anyway

Do you have an URL where we can peek at these magical Featured Products perhaps?

Re: Featured Products - number on display

You could just try loading a fresh version of includes/modules/featured_products.php and making sure there isn't an overide copy

Tried that - but it was at the end of a long frustrating day, so I'll have another look.

It's here

(Any chance of having the forum links colour changed as they don't stand out very well?)

Re: Featured Products - number on display

Kind of odd ...

Check again the Maximum Settings for:

Maximum Display of Featured Products - Main Page
Number of featured products to list on main page

Next, look at your configuration table in phpMyAdmin and sort on the configuration_key and find the: MAX_DISPLAY_SEARCH_RESULTS_FEATURED

Make sure that you only have 1 of these configuration_keys and that the configuration_value is set to 6

Re-uploaded untouched original as Neville suggested.

Linda - Checked; Done ; Is...

and still only the first row of 3! :frusty:

Re: Featured Products - number on display

And you just have to work in the Classic template because ...

For giggles ... rename /includes/templates/classic to /includes/templates/classic_HIDE

How many show up?

Re: Featured Products - number on display

As I said earlier ...It was inherited set up with some overrides, some plain overwrites - THEN it was passed on to me due to illness.

It's a complete shambles but I wasn't aware just how bad it was until now! I KNOW that some of the edited files are in template_default, some are in classic and some - well heaven only knows where!!

So - yep, just for laughs, did that...and still only 3!

Re: Featured Products - number on display

Did I mention that Beyond Compare from scootersoftware.com is your friend?

Lovely FTP interface to compare files to a clean, original version ... find those bad ol' core code changes that should of been overrides ...

Find those goober hacks some stranger did one night ...

Re: Featured Products - number on display

Oh yes, I use BC frequently, but in this situation, I've been replacing "suspect" files with clean originals in an attempt to isolate the problem. The fact that you have not been able to suggest a solution that works adds a tremendous amount of weight to my argument that this cart really needs starting afresh rather than trying to fix things that shouldn't have been fixed in the first place!

Thank you for your efforts - if I ever find the reason I'll let you know.

Re: Featured Products - number on display

Peek in the overrides for featured_anything ... and peek at the originals ...

Check them to see what they are using as their MAX value in case it has been manually changed vs using the setting in the configuration on the select statements ...

Re: Featured Products - number on display

Linda - I've peeked 'til I'm piqued and peaked with my peeking!

I'm not going to waste any more time on this because the client has decided to live with the 3 and as soon as the store looks as if it's goinbg to be a success, then I'll start rebuilding in whatever the latest ZC version is of the time.
