Stupid question but I don't know the answer :-*(

The counters in Zen admin, how the heck do I read them? There are 2 sets of numbers that constantly change and I have no idea if one if page hits, page counts, etc..

See here: 06/02/2006 117 - 592
06/01/2006 257 - 707
05/31/2006 91 - 471
05/30/2006 59 - 661
05/29/2006 13 - 104
05/28/2006 12 - 213
05/27/2006 7 - 177
05/26/2006 29 - 701
05/25/2006 2 - 18
05/24/2006 1 - 1

My site is very new, so I'm trying to accurately track my visitors..

Re: Stupid question but I don't know the answer :-*(

The first number is number of sessions (first hits) to the site that day ...

The second number is the number of pages viewed that day ...

Re: Stupid question but I don't know the answer :-*(

I was wondering about this also. Thanks.

And, also, is the "Hit Counter" in the upper left corner the total amount of hits to the site since the "Hit Counter Started" date? Is there a way to change the start date?

You can manually edit the counter tables ...

counter holds just the data and total count to date

counter_history is recording based on date the counter for the day and the session counter ...

Re: Stupid question but I don't know the answer :-*(

NOTE: the general counter can be updated from the Tools ... Store Manager ...

However, this only updates the count not the date ...

Re: Stupid question but I don't know the answer :-*(

Try it ... go to the Admin home page ... look at the count ...

Click 6 pages in the admin ...

Go to the Admin Home page ...

Did it change?

stevefriedman71:

is there a way to show the visitor number in the "footertop" ?

You could put something like this in your customized tpl_footer.php file:

Since <?php echo $counter_startdate_formatted; ?> we have had <?php echo $counter_now; ?> visitors.

However, it is generally considered amateurish to show counters on websites publicly.
It's useful for the administrator, but not usually necessary for the public.
Granted, some very-high-traffic sites in niche competitive markets may find a counter to offer a competitive advantage; although these scenarios are few.
At least make it discrete ... not glaring.

Code snippet works fine(TY), but counter increases by one after every different page visit per visitor, so code that increase per session would be? TIA
