removing test from banner

I just changed the header_bg.jpg file but I still see some text that says:
"Sales Message Goes Here" at the right end of the banner, how do I delete that text?

http://www.portlandwinegear.com/shop

Thanks

Re: removing test from banner

in includes -> languages -> english -> YOUR_TEMPLATE -> header.php

Find the following line:

define('HEADER_SALES_TEXT', 'Add your own text here or leave blank');

and make whatever changes you want.

Re: removing test from banner

Please take some time to read the FAQs and use the Search facilities. This and many other questions have been answered before.

Re: removing test from banner

I found the header.php file, but the define('HEADER_SALES_TEXT', had no text where you would add it. The words that I see in the banner are:

"Sales Messsage Goes Here"

I still can't find it in any of the files mentioned. What other file could it be?

The text in red is what you change or delete.

Re: removing test from banner

There was no text there to begin with. That's why the "Sales Messsage Goes Here" text is in another file, what file is it?

Re: removing test from banner

I made some more changes trying to solve this problem. I've read through the FAQ on this subject and it doesn't give me the info I need to solve the problem.

Look at the page again, http://www.portlandwinegear.com/shop and you can see the header_bg.jpg under the green Portland Wine Gear sign which is the logo.gif file. How do I get rid of the header_bg file so it does not get in the way?

Thanks

Re: removing test from banner

Before you go any further- Go to the FAQs and read the section on setting up and customizing a template. You are playing with the Classic template and you need to set up a custom template so your site won't get overwritten during the next upgrade.

Re: removing test from banner

So what do I do with the classic one to put it back to where it was? I thought I could change a banner in the classic on default. I have had trouble understanding the instructions, some things can be done with the straight code and others with the admin area. it seems rather confusing.

I have already entered 40 items do I have to re-enter them in some other custom theme. All I wanted to do is get rid off some of the modules that weren't needed and add my own banner with our name on it. I shouldn't have to create a whole new template just for that. Please explain and simplify. Thank you.

Re: removing test from banner

Re: removing test from banner

Two suggestions -

  1. Go to Admin > Tools > Developer's Toolkit and enter the text you want to replace in the bottom left box the select all files in the search box, hit search and see what turns up. Copy and edit the correct file.

  2. Or, you could just go to includes/languages/english/classic/header.php. If the file is not in your classic folder it should be. Copy it from includes/languages/english/header.php and edit the override.

Re: removing test from banner

Thanks, its better now but how can I change the grey text to black or move it down to the blue part of the image.

check it out at: http://www.portlandwinegear.com/shop

the file is: shop/includes/languages/english/classic/header.php

you can't do much with this file. is there another file to make the changes?

Re: removing test from banner

Based on your site ... have you considered upgrading to v1.3.0.1 before you get any further along?

Currently ... you are using Classic ... and should be using your own template and overrides directories ...

Since you aren't and are just getting started, now would be a great time to upgrade to v1.3.0.1 and start a clean template from the template_default and build your site ...

Re: removing test from banner

I am sure that the bugfixes and security updates and additional features might just be a pretty good reason to upgrade ...

Reading the /docs and the FAQs and the WIKI should give you quite a bit of information in addition to the forum ...

Re: removing test from banner

Norma - the Admin > Tools > Developer's Toolkit search funtion is a great tool. Suggest you review guidance from Kim and Ajeh about using the Classic template before you go very far.
