make site wider

I am haveing a bit of trouble finding the bit of script or scripts to make my site fill out to the with of the screen, without every thing else going weird, any help please, thanks rod,

Thanks, Misty, I have got the custom template running, and it is working but i am not sure which style sheet is controlling the tile_back.jpg. do you think I should re-install zen cart and start fresh with a new custom template based on default and not classic ( i seem to have a meld of classic and default at the moment), Thanks Rod,
