Am not getting any help

I am sorry for this, but the zen-cart SSL for me is not working at all. And I am not getting any good help even. I guess if this issue will not be resolved I have nothing to say but this zen cart is sucking me dry.

My hosting company did their best. Use a dedicated SSL, still it is not working. I need a professional php programmer probably for this, or the company I am working will just purchase a better shopping cart that we can use.

Thanks to you all for your time.

Re: Am not getting any help

Hello Clyde,

here's the thread to all this issue.

http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37517

I am so frustrated now.  For me, it's not fair that everyone gets help in this forum for the same Zen Cart software issue. Well, I believe I don't and didn't. I have to figure on something and learn from scratch what php is all about. Now I am I think but am a babe for this.

The main issue is the login and logout problem whenever SSL is enabled. If not enabled it works fine, but I don't want the customer's info be stolen because of the shopping cart not being secured. So the whole thing is all about losing the redirection link whenever the somebody logins and logout. One has to click back button or refresh button to see the normal page. If I am the only one who is getting this issue, what is the problem? I have the same codings like everyone else.

So what is the big difference?

Thanks.

You have recieved as many answers as can be givin

You have something screwed up, the issue with login is that for somereason your URL is getting mangaled,

I showed you the URL that was being created....

Now if you are done with the pity me party contact your host and ask them why YOUR urls are getting screwed when using their shared certificate....

Re: Am not getting any help

Hello Merlin,

If you think this is all about "pity me party" then I should have a better way of doing this. I will go somewhere, not in this forum.

Yes, you are exactly right to say I got some answers. But unfortunately the answers I got before where vague, confusing and not direct. I felt like I was just told to jump and swim in deep waters and save yourself when I don't know how to swim. If I wrote this program, I will exactly know what the stinking the problem is. But my knowledge about php just started, (I bought a book and started reading them), and about this Zen Cart is that of a beginner.

I already called and spoke with my hosting company and was told that everybody's shopping cart (various programming) were fine and good, except mine with Zen Cart. They told me if the admin is working fine, then the login and logout issue should be likewise. I don't have a problem with SSL when it comes to the admin. Everything is fine. Let me repeat myself again: It's all about the secured Login and Logout issue.

You have been telling me that the link is butchered, mangled, screwed. I checked that link and that link doesn't even exist. If you are saying that it was screwed, which part of the php is screwed? Which part of the php segment is screwed? Do I have to rewrite everything? I am thinking maybe I should do that in the future. After I have earned my masters in php one of this days! Ho ho ho! for you to say probably!

All I need is a specific answer. Don't make fish for something when I don't even know how to hold the right way a stinking fishing rod.

One more thing, if I know what all about php, I will not be in this forum and ask anybody's advice. I will be on my own. I will be proud to have my own!

Thanks again.

Re: Am not getting any help

your right the link
https://ssl127.securednshost.com/~exophora_page=index
dosnt exsist this is copied and pasted right from your site, if you look at your whos online you will see that I just logged in...

the link is mangaled it should look like

https://ssl127.securednshost.com/~exophora/index.php?main_page=index

see the problem.... there is something screwed up at your site...
maybe try re-installing it..

but its not a zen error since I can show you several sites that use shared ssl

I also remember saying if you set me a temp ftp account I would fix this issue for you,

How much more help could you actually want

Re: Am not getting any help

Merlin,

I did create the temp ftp account for you. But I don't know why you can't enter either. I don't know why. Now that was deleted.

I truly (deep in my heart) appreciate your help. But why don't you just tell me where to go and fix the problem? I am not asking for something big. I am asking you to kill the dragon for me. Well, I can see you are more than willing to do that by asking for a temp account. But why not just tell me clearly the steps on where to go and fix the problem? You see I would really love to know the root cause of the problem.

Yes, I am thinking of re-installing everything and start from scratch but I am trying to avoid this so I don't have to start from square one. I am trying every possibilities available. I don't want to start the procession all over again when I am only a foot away from the finishing line. You see what I am saying?

I like fixing problem if I will be taught how, so I will learn how. Is these possible?

In other words, is there anybody who is more than willing to share their knowledge when it comes to this? I mean, what are we here for? Or, why am I here for? Why should I waste my time in this forum and get nothing? I am not here just for the fun of it. All I know is that, I am here to learn and share inputs and get help, not to be chastised for being a "php ignorant" or for being a "Zen Cart dummy."

Like I said, if I wrote this software and decided to share this with the general public then I should be more than generous to share any tiny little help that a novice is crying for.

This is all I ask: real help with a clear direction. I see that there are some people who asked for help but didn't get one. They end up figuring it out themselves. Well, good for them. I wish I can do the same thing. But I seemed to have exhausted everything. Well, for a php novice like me, what can you expect?

Thanks.

Yes, the SYMPTOM is showing via the login/logout issue.

The root cause is likely corrupted files or files altered by contributions installed.

You have been telling me that the link is butchered, mangled, screwed. I checked that link and that link doesn't even exist.Correct. It doesn't exist. That's why you're getting the error message.

If you are saying that it was screwed, which part of the php is screwed? Which part of the php segment is screwed? Who knows. We don't have a copy of the files you've installed/edited on your server. ... hence the plethora of questions/suggestions offered by various persons who have taken their personal time to offer ideas and assistance .... Re: Am not getting any help

Virtue my crystal ball is in the shop.
I might be a wizard but I dont have the gift of foresight,
I have to see the files to see whats wrong.

and your right you sent me a temp ftp that wouldnt let me in.
I also let you know right away, you never got back to me. I though the issue was done until I saw this post here today.....

You had 3 developers and myself trying to help you,

take a look around, see how many other posts got that kind of attention.

Re: Am not getting any help

Virtue,

No Merlin is saying when you post a thread titled "Not getting any help" after Kim, Ajeh, Merlin and Kobra have answered multiple questions for you, it seems ungrateful and you have tried their patience so now they may have gotten a little snippy.

Your threat to take your marbles and go home is not helpful either.

Your analogy about the fishing rod is interesting. You seem to misunderstand how the forums should be used. What makes you think that you could setup a secure e-commmerce site with as little knowledge of computers as you seem to have? If there is something you don't know you should learn it and not berate some of our best helpers in the forum when they have given the correct answers but you could not understand the answer. Until this point, everyone has patiently answered your questions and provided a great deal of feedback.

In setting up my cart I had a number of issues. ALL OF THEM caused by me. (I suspect yours are ALL CAUSED BY YOU.) Fortunately, I had chosen a host that specialized in ZenCart and they solved every problem in minutes. I pay a little more but my frustration level has been low.

So let's review -

  1. You have had a series of problems where people have helped you without any fee to support software that they did not charge you for to begin with.

  2. Now you have another problem that appears unique to you and your hosting company (I searched the threads and all other issues like this have been resolved)

  3. Further, your SSL issue screams out that either you loaded something incorrectly or their is a conflict with a setting by your host. (Where you are using a FREE certificate)

Your response to all of this - instead of digging in and learning how to use the cart and/or triple-checking with your host, you barked at members of the forum and then got your feelings hurt because Merlin was a little gruff.

You owe several people an apology.

I wonder how much paid support you have gotten from your host in the 28 days since you joined ZenCart forums? I really doubt it can even compare to the support you got for free here.

Seems like the definition of pity party to me. The minimum payment for ZenCart support is effort and kindness.

Two suggestions that may work for you -

  1. Review the recommended hosts and move your site there.
  2. Pay someone to install, fix, repair, upgrade, whatever you need.

Did you know that the words 'virtue' and 'perserverance' have some common roots in Greek? I suggest you find a solution and quit blaming others. It's you site - fix it.

Re: Am not getting any help

virtue:

This is all I ask: real help with a clear direction. I see that there are some people who asked for help but didn't get one. They end up figuring it out themselves.
There are several typical reasons for this:

  1. not enough information given.
  2. the problem isn't cut-and-dry
  3. the problem is a result of odd server configurations ... the software and developers can't be "up to date" on all 500,000 different possible configurations in one state alone.
  4. the person posting has an attitude and essentially drives folks to work with people who are clearly appreciative of the help offered, rather than being critical and assuming that everyone else is sitting around doing nothing and ignoring them
  5. many problems are a result of add-on contributions that have broken the core code. The Zen Cart programmers don't study every addon contribution, nor do we certify any of them. They are all use-at-own risk.
  6. the FAQ's section may already contain well-documented answers to the posted problem. A bit of research usually points the person in the right direction. It's equally undesirable to always reply to posts with "check the FAQs".

and lots of other reasons ... I'm sure you catch my drift...

Re: Am not getting any help

DrByte,

I do appreciate the free ideas and advice coming from everybody here because I know they are all offered FOR FREE. I just felt like I was left out w/out fixing the problem.

When it comes to the files, I installed the older version of ZEN CART using fantastico. Then I upgraded the version to v.1.3.0.1 through fantastico. When it comes to changing files, I did not change or altered anything except:

changing the following:

http (as instructed)
https (as instructed)
ENABLED_SSL, 'false' to ENABLED_SSL, 'true'.

so the whole issue started after changing from false to true.

That's it so far I know of. (Of course, not to mention the customizing of the layout of the shopping cart which basically just changing the colors and removal of some of the .gif or jpeg.

But if this boils down to having corrupted the whole files, then I guess I will reinstall everything.

I do have a copy of the Zen Cart (older version) in my computer

Thanks.

Re: Am not getting any help

If your gonna start over,

start over with a fresh copy of zen cart 1.3.0.1 you can get it from the link at the top.

You upload the files in the directory they are in

basically

delete the old files

open the zen distro to where you can see the admin and cache folders,

upload all the files

then go to

www.your domain.com/zen install directory/

it will auto start the install process

you can also go to https://www.yourdomain.com/zen install directory/docs and there are really good directions inthere for setting up the cart.

by installing it this way you can set it up to run ssl right off the bat and let the system create the settings

Re: Am not getting any help

before you totally "start over", try uploading the NEWEST version of the /includes/functions/html_output.php from the v1.3.0.1 ZIP

Also, I posted some other technical thoughts in your other thread.

FURTHER TECHNICAL HELP should likely continue in the other thread.

Re: Am not getting any help

DrByte,

I do agree with you. My apology to all if I offend anybody of what I said. But I believe I submitted my issues clearly too. And I am just being honest since my inception to this forum of my being a beginner about php.

I am not also insinuating that people just sits around and do nothing to my call for help as I know for a fact that help is a prerogative and that everybody has there own business to care of too.

I just felt that I didn't get the right answer to the issue. I am just being honest of how felt when it comes to resolving the issue.

That's all I am addressing.

Re: Am not getting any help

virtue ... here is the problem ...

Fantastico has an automated install for Zen Cart of their own ...

While this is very helpful to folks ... often times it does not work right ... or the upgrade does not work right etc.

The best thing to do is to update the files on your site from a clean v1.3.0.1 ...

However, to not lose your database you will want to backup your database and your site ...

Then you can reload all of the files from the clean Zen Cart v1.3.0.1 ...

The next thing to do is see if that is all that is needed or if something further has to be done ...

The auto install by Fantastico has obviously damaged one or more of your files and this is producing the invalid links that Merlin is telling you about that is causing the errors on your site ...

Re: Am not getting any help

SermoneZone, DrByte, Merlin,

I don't know if there's even a bigger word to say thank you for my deep appreciation to all your assistance and help.

But I definitely follow your advices to the letter with patience and perseverance being ya'll a Zen Master to this. As the old maxim says, a follower can't be better or above his master.

Again, thank you and my apology if I did sound like some ungrateful crying baby.

Re: Am not getting any help

Thank you Linda for your additional help to this. That's why I asked you earlier about where to get the newer version because I got all the files from fantastico.

Sorry, it was my fault of not saying this clearly in the beginning.

Thanks again.
