Installed OK, but can't even open the Admin area

First and foremost, I am a newbie/retard so please bear with me. I just installed zencart with relatively little sweat and tears. Now from the installer I can get to the store ok, but when I go to the "Admin area" I get a "file not found" type of page. Actually, in Firefox I get a "The connection was interrupted" error page. The same page comes up all over the place when I start digging around in the "store". What did I do wrong? What can be done? Thanks to anyone out there who may be able to help.

Re: Installed OK, but can't even open the Admin area

Have you an URL that we can peek at?

And could you post, from your server, the 2 files:

/includes/configure.php

/admin/includes/configure.php

without your username and password?

Re: Installed OK, but can't even open the Admin area

OK, before I do that, I have a simple question: Don't these files include all the information that one would need to step right into my system and fool around with my site? If so, I'd rather not "post" them to this forum, get me?

Re: Installed OK, but can't even open the Admin area

Got it. Ok, here goes. Also, notice that I stuck in "(addedforposting)" between the two words in my domain name. This is just so this thread (hopefully) doesn't show up in future searches for the site. Lemmie know if there is anything else I should provide. Thank you again for your help.

/catalog/admin

Re: Installed OK, but can't even open the Admin area

What are the permissions on /admin ... should be 755

It loads as a forbidden page ...

Make sure you have the /admin/index.php and that this is a Zen Cart file and not something your hosting site loaded ...

Just changed the permissions to 755.

And, yep, the index is from zencart.

Re: Installed OK, but can't even open the Admin area

NOTE: I do not believe this is your secure URL ...

https://www.kurdish(addedforposting)carpets.com

If it is, it is not working ... check with your Hosting site ...

Re: Installed OK, but can't even open the Admin area

Not from the final page of the install process, where I am given the choice of going to the store or to the Admin area. Is there somewhere else I should try?

I've got my store at www.kurdish(addedforposting)carpets.com/catalog

Re: Installed OK, but can't even open the Admin area

You have in your configure.php stated that your secure URL is:
https://www.kurdish(addedforposting)carpets.com

This does not work ...

Turn OFF the secure and your Admin will work while you are waiting on a response from your email to your Hosting site to find out your proper secure URL or have them fix this one if that is suppose to be your proper URL ...

Re: Installed OK, but can't even open the Admin area

Ok, there was a flash of real progress!

But now I am having another (someone silly) problem. My Admin/password doesn't seem to work. This should be what I have in my MySQL manager, no?

Re: Installed OK, but can't even open the Admin area

To be precise, I can (of course) get the system to create and send a new password to my email, but where can I go to confirm what administrator name it wants?

So...close....

Yes. Under your cPanel access, you can create a mySQL Database name as well as a new login name and password. Then, once created, you can activate it from the same page.

where can I go to confirm what administrator name it wants?

Assuming you wish to create an admin account within Zen Cart, go to your admin section - > tools menu. :wink2:

Re: Installed OK, but can't even open the Admin area

You need to use phpMyAdmin and browse the admin table of your database to see what your admin_name and admin_email is ...

Providing those are your's ... then use the Forgotten Password to send you a new one ...

Re: Installed OK, but can't even open the Admin area

Ajeh's points are correct.

BUT... TheOracle is incorrect in his post.

My Admin/password doesn't seem to work. This should be what I have in my MySQL manager, no?No, your Zen Cart admin password is NOT the same as your MySQL or hosting account password (unless you specified the same during installation).
Your admin username and password are what you specified on the "Admin Setup" stage of the (zc_install) installation process.
If you want to reset the admin password from the admin login page, you need to supply the email address that you used on the "Admin Setup" page of the installer.

If you cannot reset the password that way, then you can use a database method to delete all the old admin accounts and create a new one.
