Multiple choices for making a donation

Besides the products offered on the catalog, if you want to offer for someone to make a donation, how can you set the attbibutes to allow it. I have made the option name as Amount and then I made option values 10 20 30 40 50. The item comes up on the catalog, but when you chose say 20 I want it to go to check out and allow them to give 20.00. All that happens now is the flat rate of shipping shows up, which I don't want. I also turned the "product controlled by attribute in the admin. (ver 1.31) I did look for a thread that had this but didn't see one, so if there is and you know where it is please direct me.

Re: Multiple choices for making a donation

What Option Type did you set for the Option Name?

Have you an URL for this product that we can peek at?

Re: Multiple choices for making a donation

I think I figured it out. I went to the attribute controller, highlighted the "make donation" went down to each of the "Price and Weights" section and put in the proper amounts. They show up and work. Thanks

Re: Multiple choices for making a donation

When adding/editing the Product there is a choice for:

Product is Virtual: Yes, Skip Shipping Address No, Shipping Address Required

Re: Multiple choices for making a donation

Is there a way to have the user input the donation amount? Basically, a user defined price attribute.

Thanks for looking,

Mike

Re: Multiple choices for making a donation

You could make the product _info sensative to the donation products_id

When products_id = XXX

1 don't show the price

2 change the Add to Cart text to read Donation Amount

Then they can enter the amount they want to donate ...

Re: Multiple choices for making a donation

That all sounds good. I just don't know how to set up a product as user entered price. Thanks.

Re: Multiple choices for making a donation

If I want to buy 39 widgets, I enter where it says:
Add to Cart

39

If I wanted to donate $39 and on products_id 57 it read instead of:
Add to Cart

Donation Amount

Then I still, as a customer, enter 39 or 39.00 and get 39 in the Shopping Cart ...

As the store owner, the 39 is a quantity used as a dollar amount ... as a customer it "looks" like the 39 is a dollar amount ...

All you are doing is altering the display so the customer "sees" dollars instead of "quantiy" when on a given Product ...

Another way is to use the Product Type and alter the text/template files for a Product Type such as Document Product so it displays differently than the regular Product General products ...

Re: Multiple choices for making a donation

I don't know how to set up a product for user input on price. I don't have any examples of this set up. I only have created products with fixed prices, or with radio button options for pricing. How would I set up a product with no price is what I am asking.

My questions isn't about semantics, it is about how to set up the product in the admin.

Thanks, Mike

Re: Multiple choices for making a donation

More or less you would edit your template file for the tpl_products_info_default.php and put in an IF statement to control the display of the price ...

if (products_id == 57) {
// don't show price
} else {
// do normal price display
}

Then use the same idea on an IF for the text on the Add to Cart button to either read different text or use a different button when the products_id is 57 ... or whatever your Product for the Donation is set to has for its products_id ...

Re: Multiple choices for making a donation

I am not referring to the display of the price on the page, I am referring to creating a product that doesn't have a price. A user created price. Is that possible? I don't know how to set up that kind of product in the admin.

Thanks, Mike.

Re: Multiple choices for making a donation

What I did was go to the attributes, make a drop down for each donation I wanted, 20.00 40.00 75.00 ect... and they have to chose that way. I was not able to get the cart to work for a write-in amount.

Hello Ajeh,

I am currently trying to follow your suggestions for editing the tpl_products_info_default.php file, but I am having problems with writing the if else statement. I was wondering if you may have some sample code.
