Newbie questions - are these things possible?

Hello,

I've recently installed ZenCart and am trying to fiddle with the settings to make it best-suited to our needs. There are a few things I'd like to ask, that don't seem immediately obvious from the admin control panel, maybe some more experienced users here could help.

(By the way - I know css very well, but not php, although I can understand basic php syntax and do some editing, so if that's required for some of the answers, I'll hopefully be able to cope - so don't be afraid to say so)

Here goes:

1) The "new", "featured", "monthly specials", etc. boxes display 3 items per row. Any way to change that to, say, 4 or more?
(I've already maximized the width of the layout, and with only 3 items per row, there is a lot of empty space).

2) More importantly, the regular category view displays only 1 item per row. Any way to change that as well? Or is this "hard-coded"? If so, any php tips to work around that, perhaps?
(In other words, I want the regular category view to be more like the "featured" view... a few items per row.)

3) Currently, there's a medium-sized image of the product in the product page, and the user needs to click on the "larger image" link to view the full-sized picture.
Any way to have the full-sized image show immediately on the product page (instead of the medium one), without the need to click?

4) How can I change the contents of boxes (such as the "information" box), and add my own custom links to boxes?
(i.e. "About us", "Custom jewelry information", etc)

5) Some of our items are sold in bulks, with price breakdowns. For example, 10 pcs. for $1.00 each; 25 pcs. for $0.75 each; 50 pcs. for $0.58 each; and so on.
How can I implement this when adding such an item?

6) Is it possible to create a user for the admin panel, that will have access only to Orders, and nothing else?
(Our sales people will need to access this area, and I don't want them to accidentally change other important settings).

Thanks in advance for your time,

Best way to answer most if not all of your questions is to begin with the FAQ link above.

Yes to most if all of your questions, though as Kim says, start with the FAQ.

However, you won't find an answer to number 6 in the FAQ, but it is still yes. This is acheived by downloading and installing Admin Profiles. There's a link to it my sig below.

Re: Newbie questions - are these things possible?

Thanks, but I've already tried looking through the FAQ. As for the layout, it seems to mainly cover stylesheet-customization, which I've already taken care of, but not things like the number of items per row.... same with boxes (I already know how to turn them on/off and move them, but changing their content does not seem to be in the FAQ).

kuroi - thanks for the tip about the admin tool, I will try it out later! Looks very useful.

You can customize how many items appear per row in the admincp, under configuration/maximum values.

Thanks- but actually, the only "per row" value I can change there is how many categories (not items) appear per row (when the categories are displayed).

Have I missed something? or is this because I'm using v1.2.5?

I don't get it. You say above that you have recently installed Zen Cart. Why then install such an old version?

I'm afraid you'll need to strike what I said earlier about Admin Profiles, which is designed for v1.3+ and look instead for its predecessor Admin Levels and keep your fingers crossed that it works properly with v1.2.5.

The installation was provided as a service by our web host. I guess they haven't updated it in a long while... at least, it certainly didn't tell me which version it was installing. I only found out afterwards by looking in the docs/ directory, where the most recent changelog was v1.2.5.

I'm beginning to see that I'll have to upgrade, since it looks like there are other tools I need as well, designed for v1.3.0+.

You might also point out to the host that they are about 12 months behind the times!

Doing fresh Zen Cart installations isn't a big deal. I often do several a day when I'm creating test environments. I recommend that you acquire this knowledge for yourself as your web host doesn't seem likely to be in a very good position to support you.
