Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

I'm trying to move my zencart to a different domain which is on the same shared server.

After a few failed attempts I found instructions here which seems to be closest to what I want to do:
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/faq.php?faq=server#faq_switch_servers

I've made a backup of my DATABASE and STORE using "Backup MySQL Database" contribution. I'm stuck at no 5 which gives the following instructions:

  1. Go back to phpMyAdmin on your NEW server. - DONE
    a. Select your NEW database (that you installed the NEW Zen Cart into)
    b. DROP all the tables. (Check them all and scroll down and on "With Selected..." select DROP. Confirm Yes.

PROBLEM HERE:

"c. Click on the SQL tab across the top and click Browse" - WHERE is this? When I click on the SQL tab all I get is a box with this heading "Run SQL query/queries on database zencart" I can't find the Browse option anywhere. I clicked on the Import tab and tried that but it all went haywire and I had to do everything all over again. I'm now stuck here and I'm too scared to "experiment" as there doesn't seem to be an undo button!

Someone please help me! Is there any steps I can omit because it's on the same shared server?

Thank you,
Linda

The import button is correct.
What do you mean by "haywire"?

Re: Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

Thank you so much for your reply. Sorry, by "haywire", I meant to say that the cart didn't display and I panicked and clicked on this and that and I don't know what else and everything was a mess!

I am just about to try the import button - this sounds ridiculous but I'm dreading it!

Will let you know how I get on,
Linda

Eeek! - I'm getting the following error message on my store

Re: Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

There may be some confusion here over the SQL tab issue in phpMyAdmin. Normally there are two SQL tabs.

  1. one is immediately above the left column with the list of the database tables and/or database name. This is only suitable fo running individual queries and not for importing whole database backups.

  2. The other is a slightly larger link at the top middle of the page. By clicking on this you should see a large box to input SQL queries in, but also a Browse button below it, which you can use to locate your backup file. Once located you can then click the 'Go' button and the backup sql file will be inserted into the database.

Unfortunately some hosts only provide a stripped down version of phpMyAdmin which only has the SQL link for running individual queries.

Re: Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

I've been seeing more and more lately that the Browse option isn't on the SQL tab (center screen), but instead under the "Import" tab a bit further to the right.

Re: Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

Thanks for your reply Vger. My host is Site5 and I do see both the SQL buttons.

I clicked on the larger tab at the top middle of the page. Looks like I've got the stripped down version as I can only see the SQL link for running individual queries. There's no browse button.

The options I've got at the top middle of the page are:

Structure, SQL, Search, Query, Export, Import, Oprations

I clicked on Import, got my file, clicked go and the only thing that's showing on my store is
"1146 Table 'admin_zc1.configuration' doesn't exist"

I tried searching for that error in forums but there was nothing.

You're right, the Browse option was under the Import tab.

What should I do? Please? This happened the last time...

"1146 Table 'admin_zc1.configuration' doesn't exist"

Is "admin_zc1" the real name of the new database ?

Yes it is. I've got v1.2.7d installed if that's any help.

Re: Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

I don't know why you'd be getting that error if you dropped the tables from the default setup database, or if you just created a blank database and then run the backup into it.

If you set up the site using the install and then dropped the tables in the default database, then try setting up another blank database and then running your backup sql file into it. If it works then you'd have to edit both configure.php files with the name of the new database.

Re: Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

Thanks Vger,
I dropped the tables from the default setup database admin_zc1 (which had the demo products) so I'm off to try your suggestion.

Some additional info: PHP is run as CGI on my host (Site5)

This is what I've done:

  1. Create a blank database called admin_zencart
  2. Select "Import" - "Browse" ({filename.sql} which is zipped})
  3. Character set of the file: utf8 (this was the default)
  4. Click Go

The contents of this new database is exactly the same as the current database.

I've ammended the 'DB_DATABASE' in includes/configure.php and admin/ includes/configure.php

I get the same error with the new database admin_zencart
"1146 Table 'admin_zencart.configuration' doesn't exist"

Your advice is much appreciated,
Linda

Re: Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

Is phpMyAdmin saying that the database import was successful?

Why is the backup database zipped?

Re: Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

From the zencart admin on my original site, I have tried selecting "No Compression (Pure SQL)" instead of GZIP but it just zips it anyway. I noticed that I have not enabled SSL on the admin here. Does it matter for this purpose?

I've just unzipped the file on my pc and dropped the new database admin_zencart and I'm trying to import the sql file from my pc.

It's really strange as Firefox hangs everytime I click on go and I don't get phpMyAdmin saying that the database import was successful. I'm running phpMyAdmin from Site5's cpanel.

I'm getting the error message again. I'm going to try IE6 and see if that makes any difference.

Sorry to keep you up so late,
Linda

Re: Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

Just tried IE6. Got the message

" Import has been successfully finished, 404 queries executed."

but I'm still getting the error

"1146 Table 'admin_zencart.configuration' doesn't exist"

Thanks so much for your time Vgers.

I'm giving up for tonight,
Linda

Re: Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

Okay, - there you have your problem - 404 queries executed.

I just backed up a default zen cart database, dropped all of the tables, and imported the backup - which came to 3210 queries.

It looks as though your backup isn't complete.

Re: Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

You're right. The problem is I don't know how to make my backup complete.
I've tried the "Backup MySQL Database" contribution, using export on phpMyAdmin and even copying and pasting the contents of the export file into "Run SQL query/queries on database" on the SQL tab and the results are the same.

I've compared each row of data on my current database and the new database :

                   Old DB New DB
                   ------- --------

No. of records 4953 4953
Size 824.4 KB 804.6 KB
Overhead 26.5 KB 0 Bytes

The number of records for each table on both databases are the same.

Here are the differences in Size:
Table name Old DB New DB

zen_admin_activity_log 387.4 KB 386.4 KB
zen_banners_history 17.5 KB 16.5 KB
zen_configuration 138.6 KB 149.6 KB
zen_db_cache 41.3 KB 1.0KB
zen_products 5.8 KB 5.6 KB
zen_sessions 30.1 KB 3.9 KB
zen_whos_online 10.5 KB 8.2 KB

Overhead in Old Database:
zen_customers_basket 36 Bytes
zen_sessions 24,716 Bytes
zen_whos_online 2,400 Bytes

I've checked it at least 3 times and the maths doesn't make sense to me.

I'm not familiar with phpMyAdmin and this is my first go at exporting and importing databases. Have I missed something?

Thanks very much,
Linda

Re: Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

The differences between those two files are minimal and don't account for the fact that only 404 queries are being run. What I think is happening is that the whole backup is not being inserted into the database, which is why you are getting the errors about the missing 'configuration' table. With only 404 queries being inserted it appears that only the tables prior to the 'configuration' table are actually being entered into your database.

What I find unusual about this is that your database is under 2Mbs in size (under 1Mb in fact) and if all of the database cannot load then you should get an error message. There is usually a default time-out of 30 seconds to run a backup into a database, but with the small size of your database it shouldn't be a problem.

In summary there are a few problems:

  1. The whole backup is not being inserted.
  2. You are not getting any error messages to tell you that.
  3. There appears to be a problem with your phpMyAdmin which is preventing the backup from being inserted.

I'm sorry that this provides no solution to your problem, but I'm not even sure that there is one - unless you raise the problem of phpMyAdmin with your hosting company.

Re: Moving zencart - cannot find Browser option on SQL tab -help!

Hi Vgers,
I was trying to export and import via php script.
To export,

<?PHP $User = ""; // Put New user -- CPanel user or MySQL user with All permissions is fine. $Password = ""; // Put New Password $DatabaseName = ""; // Put Database name $File = ""; // Put the complete path here -- /home/user/database.sql for example $Results = shell_exec( "mysqldump --allow-keywords --opt -u$User -p$Password $DatabaseName > $File"); ?>

Called it from the browser and the resulting sql file was only a few hundred bytes. I'm definitely getting in touch with my host now. I'll update everyone.

Thank you so much for your time.
