How to take off '->' and add bullets?

Well, I actually found another thread where someone is asking how to take off the '->' that comes after a category, but couldn't find an answer. So, I'm hoping someone can help me out here.

In addition, is it possible to add a different bullet to a Category's Subcategory's subcategory? I want my 'Subcategory' bullet and 'Subcategory's Subcategory' bullet to differ.

Example:

CATEGORY ->

:: Subcategory

***** Subcateory of Subcategory

Re: How to take off '->' and add bullets?

I'm sure it's possible to add bullets. You just need to make ethe appropriate changes in the admin.

To get rid of the -> you need to erase the default category separators.
Look in admin->configuration-> layout settings.

the default is '->'

the little '|' before your subcategory is called out by '| '
So to have an '' you probably need to change that to ' '

:D

Re: How to take off '->' and add bullets?

lawman, I knew how to change the '::' in the Layout settings; I just wanted to add a different bullet to its subcategory. Now that I know you can't, :schmoll: I have no clue how to code, so I can't altar any files at all, or else I will go absolutely crazy.

And, THANKS woodland for telling me how to get rid of that awful '->'. Looking at it was annoying the heck out of me.

Thanks again guys!:lol:

Re: How to take off '->' and add bullets?

Oh! Another question,

How do I add an image in FRONT of the category title in the sidebox? I tried adding HTML to the field where you have to write down the Name of the category, but the field isn't long enough.

:(

If you find that the categories box is not sufficiently wide enough to accomodate what you are trying to do.

In the admin > config > layout settings > reset both the column width boxes and the column width to a greater value for left or right or both

Kobra, I'm not trying to increase the width of the categories box. I just wanted to add images in front of the Category Names located in the sidebox, and I tried doing this by adding HTML Code in front of the "category name" of the "Edit Category" page of the Admin. The text field was not long enough ... there was not enough room for me to input the whole HTML code, was what I meant.

:yes:

OK I mis-understood what was not fitting...thought that it did not fit in the sidebox...

How about closing this thread and posting your solution for others that might try what you are doing...and maybe a url for a look...

Not to ressurrect the dead, but this thread was recently referenced, and I wanted to add relevant new info.

The Categories Dressing mod will allow you to use different custom bullets for as many levels of subcategories as you care to define, as well as for different kinds of categories (active tree, open to products, etc.)
