help with Fastway Shipping Module

Hey Zenners, first step is to ask your Fastway office for a soft-copy (preferrably in Excel format) of the transshipment schedule for your area. Once you have that you will see what is required to reformat the data into the format of the original SQL upload files.

From my experience with both Sydney and Newcastle, the transshipment schedule for both areas are in a very different format. No doubt others will be similarly different.

Cheers

Re: help with Fastway Shipping Module

Just wondering if anyone has managed to adjust the code of the Fastway Module so that it checks the postcode AND the suburb/town ? I would think that this would be essential with so many suburbs (with differing rates) using the same postcode. Any ideas?

I suspect that would create other less desirable problems as suburbs are frequently written differently e.g., Sth X, X South, St, St., Saint, etc. Just my 2cents. I know I've had to make changes to some SQL entries to get consistency.

Re: help with Fastway Shipping Module

Thats true, GAM in a small amount of cases, but I personally found that checking by postcode only was just too unreliable. Take NSW postcode 2480 for example(one of many...), when the db is queried by postcode only it takes the first one (alphabetically) off the list. If i wanted a parcel sent to Bexhill (which should be $10) it chooses Back Creek instead ($35 !). The Error message that people would get for a misspelt name could be changed to better inform them of their problem and asking them to email you so that it could be sorted out permanently.

Re: help with Fastway Shipping Module

Actually an error message doesn't appear if you change the Fastway script to check the 'city' details as well. What happens is that the customer just doesn't get Fastway as a shipping choice. The temporary workaround for me was this..

1.Make sure you have another shipping option chosen to use.(in my case it was a local pick-up)

  1. Change the text in the includes/languages/english/checkout_shipping.php to say something like the following (about line22)...."TEXT_ENTER_SHIPPING_INFORMATION', 'This is either <br>1.Your prefered shipping method by choice,or<br>2.Your City name was typed incorrectly in your Shipping Details.<br>Please email us if youre unsure about the best way to spell your City to complete Checkout.');

Hi there,

I have a list of ex-Brisbane sql statements (Sept 2008). If anyone knows where or how I can upload them for everyone to use can you please let me know?

Re: help with Fastway Shipping Module

hello all,

i have just installed this module (v1.0.1) and have two minor problems.

  1. handling charges do not seem to take effect.
  2. the shipping estimator seems to (only occasionally), return $0.00 when i know it shouldn't. refreshing the popup screen then seems to update the price.

any ideas?

otherwise seems to work fine, albeit i cannot see any parcel splitting (instead we simply entered appropriate prices for parcels over 25kg to mimic multiple parcels)

cheers
andy

Hi Andy,

I've been having the same problem, with the handling charge not working. Have you had any luck fixing it?

Regards,

Mike.

Re: help with Fastway Shipping Module

Been looking for alternative carts etc and stumbled across open cart. Very nice cart and the fastway module for it works flawlessly and only requires one simple text file to be changed slightly for it to work perfectly for your depot.

It works similar to the Australia post way in that it uses a form on the fastway website and submits data to it and receives results, so its always accurate.

there is a simple text file where i noticed lines like this:

http://www.fastwayfms.com/scripts/mgrqispi.dll?appname=FW&prgname=FastLocatorResult&pCountry=1&pFranchisee=GEE&vXML=1&vPostCode='.$postcode.'&vWeight='.($weight/1000)

You can see the GEE bit, i put that in myself it was orginally something like BNE or something for brisbane.. so i just found everytime BNE was mentioned in the php file and changed to GEE which was a guess at what Geelong would be and i was right because it now works perfectly for Geelong fastway prices.

Its only downfall so far and thats a downfall of open cart itself is that it cant handle anything over 25kg. This is what i like about zencart is its ability to split orders into multiple boxes for anything over 20kg(allowing for Aus post aswell)

So what i would like is for a coder or someone to use this newfound easy way of developing fastway modules instead of the silly databases and stuff and create a nice easy fastway module for zen cart that will use zen carts wonderful feature of being able to have multiple boxes.

Id be willing to donate/pay $100 for the module and im sure others would too.

Hey Blueeyedfrog,

I'd be happy to host all your transshipment modules via my website. That would be no problem at all. I am working on modules for Wordpress e-commerce as well, and the work you are doing would help me greatly, and help the zencart community as well.

Cheers,
James

Re: help with Fastway Shipping Module

Hi, im having a problem with the shipping pricing, the current shipping method is

$shipping_cost = ($shipping * $shipping_num_boxes)

Im trying to get rid of the $shipping_num_boxes but when i do the shipping price drops to a flat rate of $30.

Is there a way to make it still call in the prices set in the zones without having boxes or is there a way to set the number of boxes to 1 despite what the weight may be?

Thanks
Gavin

Re: help with Fastway Shipping Module

Hi Guys.

I have finally updated my SQL database and have been testing the module for correct function.

I have noted that the delivery days section doesn't seem to work as expected.

In my db I have entered a numeric value for f_delivery but when I set my postcode to anywhere where the delivery would not be S/D or N/D (3 for 3 days for example) the module still reports next days delivery.

I am note a coder so unfortunately I don't know what to look for or how to resolve this issue.

Any comments would be helpful

Regards

Fred

Re: help with Fastway Shipping Module

Hey ozetrade

Quick question, I am based in the UK but my customer also wants to use Fastway. How can I convert this module to fit with the UK? I have the main postcodes, can you help please, or put me in the right direction?

I'll take $40, and you can donate the balance to the zencart team. :yes:

Re: help with Fastway Shipping Module

I seem to have an issue with this module.

I am using it with the NZ DB and have found that regardless of the shipping destination the module reports next days delivery. I modified the \includes\modules\shipping\fasyway.php file so that it looked like this.

$sql = "SELECT * FROM " . DB_PREFIX . "fastway_zones WHERE $topcode >= f_postcode and $topcode <= f_postcode";
$rec = $db->Execute($sql);

//    if ($rec->fields['f_delivery'] = 'S/D') {
//	$days = 'same';
//	}
//	if ($rec->fields['f_delivery'] = 'N/D') {
//	$days = 'next';
//	}

    if ($rec->fields['f_delivery'] = 'S/D') {
	$days = 'same';
	}
    if ($rec->fields['f_delivery'] = 'N/D') {
	$days = 'next';
	}
    if ($rec->fields['f_delivery'] = 'S/D') {
	$days = 'same';
	}
	else {
	$days = $rec['f_delivery'];
}

Then the module reported that delivery would be same day.

I am not using S/D or N/D in f_delivery so regardless, the information in f_delivery should be displayed.

I conclude from this that the lookup is stopping or failing at the else statement. Therefore the actual days in the f_delivery column are not being displayed as expected.

I am not a coder, so if someone could help me resolve this that would be most helpful.

Regards

Fred

First up, I really have no idea where this code otiginally comes from (it isn't important) but I can tell you that there is no way that it will produce the 'expected' results. It will always end up with $days = 'same'; (or $days = 'next') with your modifications.

Why?
Because what follows the IF statements are NOT comparisons, but ASSINGNMENTS, and these assignments will always evaluate to 'true'.

The lines that read like:
   if ($rec->fields['f_delivery'] = 'xxx') {

Need to be changed to
   if ($rec->fields['f_delivery'] == 'xxx') {

For this code to have any hope of working.

Cheers
Rod
