Customer Notification / Alert When Item Back in Stock

I have a need for the following module or feature :

When an item is out of stock, the customer can click on a button and input his/her e-mail address for automatic notification when the item is back in stock !

A workaround could be:

encourage them to sign up for product notification on that product
when it's back in stock, go to Admin->Tools->Newsletters, and send out a product notification for that product to all its subscribers.

Otherwise, it would have to be coded specifically.
