Attributes HOW-TO

Hi All,

Is there any way to display the Attributes below the Description? Also how can I get the Attributes using Checkboxes to display in rows instead of columns (Or Can I?)

I have have products with many attributes (ex. Size, Color, Enclosure Card, Signature, and extras) then each of these have 3 to 15 choices. I would like to use drop downs for some and check boxes for others but I can't get the check boxes to display how I want them. ::frust

Thanks,

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

To change the Attributes to below the description edit the product _info page you are looking at and start by adding border="1" so you can see ...

Then alter where the code goes ... be sure to use your templates and overrides directory ...

As to how many attributes are in a row ... if you go to the Option Name and hit Edit ... there are a whole slew of settings hidding back there ... B)

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

Ajeh,

Thanks for the help, Would the product_info page I need to edit be in the Includes->Modules->Pages->Product_Info? How can I tell which page I need to work with?

Also

**As to how many attributes are in a row ... if you go to the Option Name and hit Edit ... there are a whole slew of settings hidding back there ... **
Changing the attribute Images per row doesn't seem to do anything. Is there somthing in the Admin that might need turned on/off?

Thanks,

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

Hello everybody. I'm a new Zen Cart user and I have a question concerning attributes:

Is it possible to make the product picture change when choosing another attribute option?

Example (hope it will be more comprehensible...): I put a color attribute on a product and I would like to know if it's possible to make having product's green picture on screen when people choose green, yellow when people choose yellow, and so on for each colors?

Sorry for my english, I hope someone will understand my question...

Thank you!

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

Sorry that is not available as a stock feature. You can have an image of each attribute separately.

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

Somehow being on page 50 of this topic makes me feel special...

anywho - I've been looking thru here and have found a lot of questions about attributes regarding selections, what I'm hoping to find the answer for seems pale in comparison, but I haven't been able to wrap my brain around it.

Everything is set up as it should be but for a few products that are super large and delicate, requiring extra shipping and insurance costs. I can't figure out how to apply the one time charge or create an attribute that would automatically add the charge to the base price and show in the checkout.

I want to apply a special shipping and insurance charge and have only been able to add it as an option.

Would it be better to create a new shipping type taking the flat shipping module and calling it 'shipping and insurance' or some such?

If that would be the way to go, are there any other files I need to change besides the language files?

If I'm off in left field, could someone toss me a line?

thanks in advance

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

Hi BaldNow,

Do these few Products all require the same insurance and shipping charges or are they different for each and for each destination?

You could set up an option name "Shipping and Insurance" with multiple values and and require at least the minimum but give them higher options.

Could you add the additional shipping and insurance into the base price, and make a note in the description that it is already included in the price.

There is also an Insurance module out there, you can do a search for. I don't know how it works but it may help.

Good Luck

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

thanks for the reply ewaite.

All the other products have been set up using a flat rate, but there are a few (3 in all) different rates for just a few items.

I set up a special S&I attribute with the 3 new prices listed but don't want them as an option.

I have the attribute name as a read only saying special shipping and insurance cost and have also added in the product description that this cost exists.

But when I add the attribute it says choose one (even tho there is only one listed and no checkmark or anything to allow them to choose).

What I'm trying to figure out is how to do the following, shown in bold, taken from the directions and reposted in these forums, but never really spelled out:

**
Depending on what you want to do with attributes there are several methods to price, add weight, sort order, and mark the type of attribute this is.

Price can be entered with a prefix of + or - or blank

+ and blank will add the attribute price <--this but not as an option?

  • will subtract the attribute price

Weight can be entered optionally if it effects the product weight with a prefix of + or - or blank

  • and blank will add the attribute weight
  • will subtract the attribute weight

There are other pricing options also available besides the standard prices.

One Time Charge <-- or this again not as an option?
Price Factor
One Time Charge Price Factor
Attirbute Qty Price
One Time Attribute Qty Price
**

I think doing either of the above in bold would work, but haven't figured how to add it and have it show as special shipping and insurance cost.

I hope someone have actually used this because as I noted I've seen this statement made numerous times, but not how to actually do it.

So yeah, any help or shove in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

READ ONLY option types are for "display" purposes ... they do not get added to the order ...

Change it to a checkbox if you want the person to make a choice ...

Change it to a Radiobutton if no choice, and mark as Default so that it is auto selected

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

I am trying to implement a simple attribute... I have a ring that we sell that has 4 sizes. I created the attributes and added it to the product. I made the attributes required. Unfortunately, the customer can still add the item to cart without selecting and attribute. Also, if an attribute is selected it's not included in the order confirmation email we receive. Any ideas what's going on?

Thanks!

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

Perhaps setting a default ... or adding

Select Ring Your Size
Sort order 0
Default
Display Only

It does not look like you set a default or one would be marked ...

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

Hi BlessIsaacola,

Add another option value "select a size" and in the attributes controller when you add it to the product make it "for display only" (Yellow) and "selected by default" (Orange) then your customer will have to change it before they can proceed to check out.

Good Luck,
Ed

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

Thanks to both of you for the tip. I created the select your size and made it a default but something is still not right. Can you please take a look below and tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks!

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

Hi BlessIsaacola,

I think the problem may be that you dont need the required text (RED) option selected. Also you can number the order of the values so that "Select a Size" is at the top. EX:

"Selecet a Size" Order=1
"Size 08" Order=2
"Size 09" Order=3
etc...

Good Luck,
Ed

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

Ed, I did as instructed. Unfortunately, it did not fix my problem. You can still add an item to cart without selecting an attribute. WORSE yet is the fact that even if you select and attribute it doesn't include it in the shopping cart or order confirmation. Any clues?

Here is the link to the product page: http://www.clevershoppers.com/christ-for-l...usso-p-599.html

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

You need to mark the Select a Size as:

Default
Display Only
Sort Order 0

This prevents the customer from picking the:

Select a Size as an option and they will be told to make a proper selection ...

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

That did not fix my problem. It still let me add the item to cart without selection and even with selection it doesn't retain the value. If a customer select size 8 for example, it doesn't retain that, so there is no way to know what size they order. This is frustrating.

Thanks!

Re: Attributes HOW-TO

Are you sure that you have the Select size set to:

Default
Display Only

Note: The Option Name should be set to Dropdown or Radiobutton

I do not know if this is related to whatever mod rewrites you are using or not ...

You could also try a switch to Classic template to see if it works there to know if it is your template ...
