Re: strange A£ symbol in zencart

Did your new host set up your database? What is the MySQL charset for the new database?

Re: strange A£ symbol in zencart

How do I find that out?

What do I tell my hosting company in order to fix this?

Please provide step by step instructions so I can tell the hosting company what to do in this case.

Regards

Martyn

Re: strange A£ symbol in zencart

To find out the charcaterset of a database using PHPmyAdmin, launch phpmyadmin, select the database from the pulldown menu and select the Structure Tab. Look for the column which says Collation. It will say something like latin1_swedish_ci. This is the characterset for the database.

The symbol you are seeing is a UTF8 character. It tends to pop up in Zencart before the £ currency symbol when you transfer from a UTF8 or UNIX system to a Windows based system and back again, or when you use a data transfer tool like Navicat.

It can easily be deleted by removing it in Admin and clicking save. You just need to remember to do this each time you transfer the database from one system to another.

Hope this helps

Jim
