Hide Products Price

I have searched the forums for this without any real results...

I would like to hide the price and ability to buy a few specific products until the customer has created an account logged in. I know you can set this up for the entire site, but this is also genneraly a bad idea for retailers.

We have several products that we sell well below what our manufactuers will allow us to advertise (their MAP price), and this is the best way I can see to get around this - show the price only to a customer that has created an account with us so that they are accessing prividleged information (this is not advertising) - Not all our products have MAP and not all our MAP policies are the same: all the MAP hacks that I have seen are unsuable by most of our MAP policies: email for price, price too low to show, add to cart for price... (they sure make it tough on us!)

I have even thought about setting up two identical sites -- one for regular products (set up as a normal store) and one for MAP products (set up that you can only see the price once logged in) and find a way to link the two... but this seems very difficult to even attempt (if not impossible - I'd have to try an find a way to share the shopping cart and the nav. menu... ) and to leave them disconnected would be discouraging to our customers (they would need two accounts and then place two orders... bad idea now that I think about it... but hopefully you get my idea)

Any ideas on hacks/mods that are out there or where I might start poking around would be a great help!

Re: Hide Products Price

I haven't tried anything like this myself, and I don't believe that there will be a straightforward way, but I certainly wouldn't try lashing together too sites. Instead I'd start by looking into creating a new product type. You would them be able to control many aspects of how the product was displayed through the Admin > Categories/Products> Product Types menu.

Re: Hide Products Price

In the Customer Settings you can setup for the all products for when the customer can browse, see prices, buy, etc.

Does this help in any way?

Re: Hide Products Price

Not quite... I only want select items to have this feature (must log in to see price & buy)

I think the new product type might be the best place to start. I am thinking that maybe I can set up a new product type called "general_MAP" and then have a bit of code where the "price/special price" and "add to cart" is - this would check to see if the customer is logged in. If they are, then everything shows as normal... If not, then they see a message like "Please log in to see price" - they log in (or create an account and log in) and are then taken back to the product and see everything as normal.

I have not had luck installing a new product types in the past, so I'm start by altering an exsisting type (i'm thinking "document - product") to see if this is even possible.

So.. first question -- how would I check to see if a customer is logged in? From there it seems like just a simple bit of code - just an If/esle statemnt...

(now, I'm not a real coder, but I have taken apart other code before to solve little problems -- so even a suggestion of another hack that is similar would be great!)

<text removed>

I did it! By accident.

I have the same manufacturers price display restrictions for one of my sites. While trying to figure out how to give first time buyers a 10% discount, and old customers also, I tried the SaleMaker feature and set up a "Grand Opening Discount" ... then to my horror realized that put a strike out on all the prices and showed the price at 10% less. Unacceptable.

So I deleted the Grand Opening Discount. (Didn't see that I could stop it by setting the end date and start date the same ... result may have been the same, though.)

That is how I hid all my prices ... must be logged in to view prices. The site is at http://old-pine-footwear.com/store if you want to see if that is what you're talking about.

Now, if someone could tell me how to get my prices showing again. I've discovered group pricing and can just add people to the group as they log in. (I did ask, but am ashamed to admit I can't find that thread to see if someone answered.)

Still, not quite...

I only want specific products to have this feature, not the entire site.

At one point I had hacked out a version of the "dual pricing" contribution (combined with the call for price feature) to do something similar, but it was buggy. Now that I am using zencart 1.3.0.2 I would like to see if I can find a cleaner way of doing this, and hopefully just in the templates (plus I can't remember what I did!)

Re: Hide Products Price

Ok, at 3:00am I finaly figured out a simple way to make this work -- well, it's not that simple, but it does exactly what I want....

I edited code for the "Call For Price" feature to a "Login For Price" feature.

I basicly edited:
includes/functions/functions_prices.php
&
includes/functions/functions_general.php
(as well as all the "call for price" text refrences in the includes & admin/includes folders to "Login for price")

In functions_prices.php:
I commented out the section that shows the "call for price image"

    // If Call for Price, Show it
//    if ($product_check->fields['product_is_call']) {
//     if (PRODUCTS_PRICE_IS_CALL_IMAGE_ON=='0') {
//        $call_tag = '<br />' . PRODUCTS_PRICE_IS_CALL_FOR_PRICE_TEXT;
//      } else {
//        $call_tag = '<br />' . zen_image(DIR_WS_TEMPLATE_IMAGES . OTHER_IMAGE_CALL_FOR_PRICE, PRODUCTS_PRICE_IS_CALL_FOR_PRICE_TEXT);
//      }
//   }

(you could keep this and change the image to something appropriate - I may do this later - hence why I commented it out rather than delete it)

and changed

return $final_display_price . $free_tag . $call_tag;

to

//Check if product is marked & customer logged in
	if($product_check->fields['product_is_call'] == '1' and $_SESSION['customer_id'] == '') {
      	return TEXT_LOGIN_FOR_PRICE_PRICE;
     } else {
   	return $final_display_price . $free_tag . $call_tag;
     }

So now it checks to see if the item is marked "call for price" (which I'm now calling "Login for price") & if the customer is logged in -- If both are true, then the "Login for price" text is enabled and the price is not shown... If the criteria is not met, everything is shown as normal.

now to disabe/enable the add to cart button

In functions_general.php:

I changed the code for "call for price" in the add to cart box

    case ($button_check->fields['product_is_call'] == '1'):
      $return_button = '<a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_CONTACT_US) . '">' . TEXT_CALL_FOR_PRICE . '</a>';
      break;

to

//Turn off add to cart - MAP
    case ($_SESSION['customer_id'] == '' and $button_check->fields['product_is_call'] == '1'):
	 return   $login_for_price = '<a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_LOGIN, '', 'SSL') . '">' .  TEXT_LOGIN_FOR_PRICE_BUTTON_REPLACE . '</a>';
	  break;

again, if the conditions are met, the login for price text will show...

I then went through all the language files and changed all refrences to "Call for price" to "Login for price"

Works like a charm!

Now... does anyone have any idea on how to get the customer back to the product they were viewing before they logged in? (once they login they are taken back to the main page)

Thank you Zen Cart for such a cool product - I was frustrated before I made this hack work, but now that I figured this out (probably something I could not have done with a "pay-for-my-do-it-my-way-cart") this is definately worth a few "cups of joe" for the Zen Team!

Re: Hide Products Price

on a similar subject, is it also possible to hide prices completely from being displayed, but still allow clients to add items to the cart, checkout (no shipping or price total display only confirmation of what they have added and their account information?

Order emails they get to also not show any prices, however I would like all prices for items to be in the db so inserted in admin?

If its possible, can someone give me a hint?

Many thanks all

Re: Hide Products Price

Can you give a real world example of why a person would shop and buy prices and shipping unseen?

Re: Hide Products Price

yes. Some months ago I built a shop using oscommerce, and customised it heavily to allow clients to add items to a cart as an enquiry system to get a trade quote on bulk purchase orders.

Prices would be different depending on how many items were purchased (min order was 5k per item.

I want to move the clients data to zen as its far far better.

You can see his site here, but I think it is a mess since to achieve it I had to literally edit code within most files.

https://www.go4beads.com

This site works like he wants, it does all the same as a shopping osc site, only zen would be nicer.

Re: Hide Products Price

What I wuld like is for clients to be able to add items, checkout, email has no prices in it, but for the site owner t be able to go into each order, edit them and add the prices.

Re: Hide Products Price

What I did before was remove the code to display prices on hte product info pages, and also in the orders history and order emails sent out, that way the prices were in the shop but not shown to the clients.

Re: Hide Products Price

A bulk of the price displays can be controlled via the functions ...

By altering them to return nothing, the prices are still in the there but they do not display ...

This would limit the need to touch as many files to control where prices are ...

You would have other sections to customize but at least not every file where a price displays ...

You would need to decide if the checkout is giving the Admin the whole story on pricing and shipping ... for customizing a payment and shipping module ...

Then, alter the email to the customer to exclude prices and to the admin to produce the regular email ...

Note: Zen Cart also has unlimited quantity discounts on a per product basis if that is of help to you ...

As the templates are separated from the code, much of this can be commented out or removed as needed ...

It would take a bit of work, but if you take the time to see how and where the prices come from and how and where they are displayed, you can mask them without losing functionality to the shop ...

Re: Hide Products Price

a far far beter answer than I got from the osc site, where I was told it was impossible (which is obviousley not correct)

Thanks, first I have to take the oscmax 2500 products and make them work in a zencart db, and the same for customers.

Orders are not so important.

Is there a module for zencart to allow editing of orders, so that my client will be able to edit the orders and alter the default price ( hidden to the end user) and insert his discount for that particular order?

Re: Hide Products Price

Hiall, been a while, but have had to go and find a proper job, cant of course but I am trying, anyway, I would like to explain the issue I have in here as its directly related.

This is what I need to have happen....

Client goes to site, and adds items to his basket.
NO price is displayed at all in the shop
Items are not virtual nor are they free.
Customer fills up basket and completes checkout as normal, skipping payment and shipping sections, simply confirmation and sending of order.
Shop owner accesses admin, views order, adjusts actual prices of items and sends order invoice to the customer (showing the price he can have them for)

Email sent to client confirming order must also not shop prices on it, but I suspect I can simply edit the file to remove this function.

As far as client is concerned, they add items to the cart like a shop, but at no point is a price shown anywhere during the checkout or adding process, however in admin all prices for each itme are clearly displayed.

I have looked and fiddled but am not able to have things like this, and am not entirely sure where I need to go to achieve this.

Why......

This is an order system, customers place an order on the shop, and wait for a quoted price since order size depics the actual price to be paid.

Thanks in advance again.
