a text field under each product

hello,

I need to put under every of my product a text field that must be fullfilled by the customer in order to specify his order. How can I do that?

Could you be a bit more specific about this? Perhaps a real world example?

what I need is:

users picks a product a court document that is identified by the ID number of the company (any company). Then I need the customer to enter the ID of the company, since I cannot offer him the drop down menu. And that is the point. I need a text field where customer can enter the ID number of the company to which the document should be issued for.

Providing you do not need to "do" anything with the text, and just need it "recorded" to each Product for the Order ...

Make an Option Name: Company ID
Option Type: Text

Click Insert ...

Next, if you would like to add a brief instruction, click Edit and add a Comment ...

Now, you add the Attribute to a Product in the Attributes Controller

Then, copy your Attribute to each Product that needs this ... or you can copy it to a Category of Products that needs this ...

I am trying to add the text attribute to all products but it seems like I can only add checkbox, radio button and file attribute to all products. Is there a way to add the text attribute to all products?

In the Option Name Manager ... do you see in the dropdown the choice for: Text

via phpMyAdmin ... in your database table products_options_values do you see a row for:

products_options_values_id language_id products_options_values_name products_options_values_sort_order
0 1 TEXT 0

I do have the TEXT in the table with the PRODUCT_OPTIONS_VALUES_ID = 0

LANGUAGE_ID = 1 and the sort order set to 0

I meant to also state that even with the right entries in the database, I am not able to add the text field globally to product categories.

Sorry....one more thing. I do see the TEXT option from the Option Manager GUI.

You make an Option Name:
My Text
Option Type TEXT

You do not add an Option Value on Option Names that are TEXT ...

You go to the Product in the Attributes Controller ...

You select from the Option Name dropdown: My Text

You select from the Option Value dropdown: TEXT [RESERVED FOR TEXT/FILES ATTRIBUTES]

Once added ... if you need to copy this Attribute to another Product or Category of Products, there are 2 Copy To buttons at the top of the screen ...

If I wanted to add an attribute to products that if for adding either a barcode or another code sed by the music industry, would it show up in the sales reports and invoices?

That is provided I can find out why my priced by attribute items aren't showing p in the sale report <sigh>

Could we use this added text for each product as Barcode field? If so, is this barcode searchable?

Maybe I should experiment it.
