extension to general product type

Hi There,

I have a general question about product types. I spend some hours looking for an answer but had trouble finding the right answer.
I am using Zen Chart to organize a collection of model cars. I am not looking into selling them anytime soon but I found Ze Chart to be perfect for that task.
I understand the concept behind adding attributes but I would like to add this information when registering the product. The general product type unfortunately does not fit my needs. I would like to keep all these general fileds since I might need some of them in the future.

So what I am looking for is a way to extend the general product type with additional product description fiels (pull doen, checkbox, text etc.).
I am sure there is a documentation about this somehwere but I could not find it...

Can anybody help?

Re: extension to general product type

There isn't much documentation on this; however, there are a number of examples of alternate product types in the downloads area, from which you might glean some examples of how to write the desired code to support your needs...

Re: extension to general product type

Hi DrByte,

Thanks for your quick answer.

You mentioned a number of examples in the download area. Maybe I am looking at the wrong page (the download section from the top navigation) but I can only find one entry for product types.

A lot of users refere to the book product type, it is also linked in the wiki docs but the link does point to the download area.... Any ideas where I can get this, especially the readme?

Just curious, why is this part rather undocumented? I would geuss that creating or customizing a product type is something that might occur frequently...

Regards,

True enough. Currently to create or enhance a product type is an advanced coding activity. Documenting how to write code is ... well ... tough. Nobody has so far taken up the challenge to write it. If you're up to it, we'll be happy to help you find a place to post it :)
