Products for hire - bookings calendar needed

I'm trying to use Zen Cart for a rentals site, ie people rent stuff. They need to be able to book things in advance, so it needs some sort of calendar feature so they can say when the hire period starts and how long they want to hire it for. Ideally it wants to allow delivery time and even more advanced, if it can take into account weekends so a hire can't start on a Sunday, say, when they're shut that would be the icing on the cake.

Anyone know of something I can use or will create it for a fee???

These are very specific requests. The way you want it, it would almost require extensive codings, since each hirings needs to be looked at in the database.

However, would it be possible to see a screenshot on how you would graphicly want this in order to make this happend systematicly ?

Has this been done by anyone? I have a decor hire site but would really love to get it done this way instead. At the moment there is no way for customers to add a hire item and have security deposits associated with the product hired and added to the cart as well as a calendar.

I have seen part of it done once for booking slots for a Christmas Grotto. But that was quite a specific requirement, without the need for the same item (in that case a time slot) to be recycled.

We looked at doing something similar for a client as while back (a Bed & Breakfast) but didn't as the client was only looking for the booking piece and not online payments. We came to the conclusion that since all the new work would be in the booking module and he wouldn't be using the existing functionality in Zen Cart, it just wasn't the right solution in that case.

Basically the booking and processing that goes around that doesn't fit comfortably with Zen Cart's product structure. It's on our (Kuroi Web Design's) "one day" list, as we see requests for this regularly and feel that it would be a useful addition that could then feed naturally into Zen Cart's product and payment processing functionality.

That said, there are a number of stand-alone booking modules out there, but typcially they address a specific industry segment, so producing one generic approach that isn't impossibly complex to configure may prove challenging and that's why I doubt that you will find something fitting your specific requirement for Zen Cart already available "off-the-shelf".

I'd like to do something like this too, if anyone else ideas :)
