Get onto the hosting company and find out what they are doing. It sounds as though they are operating in Safe Mode with a whole bunch of restrictions on what you can and cannot do. Some of those listed are perfectly reasonable for a shared server - but you do need to find out what their setup is and if you can run Zen Cart on it.

/free/tripod

You will not enjoy your experience of trying to run an advanced e-commerce system on free hosting such as Tripod.

ini_get, ini_alter, ini_restore, ini_set, getrusage, mysql_list_dbs, get_current_user, set_time_limit, getmyuid, getmypid, dl, leak, listen, chown, chmod, chgrp, realpath, tmpfile, link, mb_send_mail() has been disabled for security reasonsFrom that list, Zen Cart uses ini_get, ini_set, set_time_limit, in order to check that system settings are suitable for operation, as well as to optimize its behaviour based on system settings.

Agh! Didn't notice the "free/tripod" part of the pathway.
