can't get into my webpage through admin anymore!!!

Hi
Today the loggin page in admin did not recognize me when I entered admin for username and admin for password so I asked it to send me an email with my password. It was new and different and wasn't sure if my username was still admin or not. Well, I can't get in at all. It keeps saying that either my username or password is incorrect. What do I do???

Re: can't get into my webpage through admin anymore!!!

I'm afraid that if you've used admin for your user name and password, you may have made it very easy for somebody or a spider to hack your site. This is one of the very first combinations that anybody would try. To wrest control back, you would need to access your database directly using a tool such as phpMyAdmin and create a new user in the admin table with a rather more secure name and password. Once you are sure that is working you should delete any old users and also rename your admin directory.

Re: can't get into my webpage through admin anymore!!!

How you connect to your database via phpMyAdmin would depend on where your database is and how your ISP has configured their server. Mine simply has a MqSQL control page with a phpMyAdmin button next to each of my databases, and clicking one takes me directly into that database. On my local development machine however, I have to choose the database manually from phpMyAdmin's left hand panel.

Once into a database, click on the admin link in the left hand panel (to go into the admin table).

Then click on the browse tab in the right hand panel top left. Lower down that panel a list of users will appear.

If you have more than one, choose the one you want to edit by clicking on the pencil symbol next to it. Edit the user name and email address to values with which you are happy. In the admin_pass field enter> 351683ea4e19efe34874b501fdbf9792:9bexactly as typed here (this is the equivalent of having "admin" as your password). Ensure that the admin_level value is 1.

Log on with your chosen admin_name and the password "admin" and change the password for security.

Re: can't get into my webpage through admin anymore!!!

Good Morning, I tried this and it does not work. We did not have Admin as the login or password before. This is the second time this happened on this cart. The first time I 'm nost sire what I did, jsut started looking at files and all of a sudden it worked again. It will not send a new password either. She is hosted at bluehost.com...could it be their servers?

Thanks

Re: can't get into my webpage through admin anymore!!!

tdslori:

I tried this and it does not work.Yes it does. I've used it myself and retested it before I posted it. There may be other factors in your environment or the way in which you've tried this that have caused this not to work for you, but for the majority of people with the problem described in this thread, this will work.

Unfortunately you haven't actually provided any explanation as to what "does not work" looks like for you, or what you have done. So it's rather difficult to diagnose your problem or speculate on whether this might be a problem with your web host.

I did note two things however, you referred to not having used the password "Admin", but the password that I offered in my post is generated from "admin". Passwords are case sensitive.

Also you said that the resend password wasn't working. This could be due to using a user name that wasn't recognised (if it failed immediately) or your web hosts mailserver being down or refusing to send the email (if not working means the email didn't arrive).

Furthermore, if you do a resend password, your password will have been changed to that coming in the email, so another possible error would be to update your password via phpMyAdmin, then do a resend email, then try to log in - this will never work.

Finally, as the admin login function works fine for literally thousands of Zen Cart users, this could, as you suggest, be a problem in the environment in which your Zen Cart is hosted.

Re: can't get into my webpage through admin anymore!!!

Ok, my host is Network Solutions and there has not been any problems with them. "What Happened" was, I was in my admin a few days ago, not knowing what I was doing, and probably screwed up my loggin. When I asked for a new password, it was emailed to me with no problem but I believe that the issue lies with the username. What I need to know now is, HOW DO I GET INTO THE MySQL arena? I am being told by Network Solutions that all of that is set up for me when they configured the Zencart but how do I get into that screen/area??? I am willing to try your suggestion but don't know how to get in. I am so frustrated with this that I am considering just hiring someone or giving up because I need more direction from Zencart itself.

Re: can't get into my webpage through admin anymore!!!

What Network Solutions say is true. In installing Zen Cart for you they will have set up the connections needed for Zen Cart to access your MySQL database, and for you to access it via Zen Cart.

However, for entirely appropriate security reasons, Zen Cart won't give access to your database to people who can't give it a valid user name and password. Unfortunately, at the moment that includes you.

So you need to bypass your Zen Cart to look at your database directly. A tool such as phpMyAdmin is very good for doing this and I have posted instructions earlier that tell you how to do this once you are in phpMyAdmin. Unfortunately, how you get in will depend on how Network Solutions have set phpMyAdmin up to work with databases on their servers. Assuming that they have it installed at all - most hosts do, but it's possible that they may have another tool for this purpose.

I recommend that you cut and paste this response and send it to Network Solutions, who are the only people who can tell you how to get direct access to databases on their servers.

Re: can't get into my webpage through admin anymore!!!

I cut and pasted it and sent it to my contact at Network Solutions who set this whole thing up for me, he just doesn't ever get back to me for some reason, very frustrating also.

Do you think it is possible that I somehow changed my username by mistake when I was in playing around with my website? I must have right? If I now how the password that I need and still can't gain access...I have been trying to think up what I possibly could have typed in and entering all different things trying to gain access and NOTHING works. This is so weird. Since I was already having trouble and now can't even get in to have more trouble, I am at a complete standstill.

Re: can't get into my webpage through admin anymore!!!

Go to your phpMyAdmin and locate your database ...

Find the table admin ...

Browse the table admin and see if you have your admin name and email added correctly ... these should be unique ...

If so, you should be able to use that admin name to request a new password with the forgotten password ...

Re: can't get into my webpage through admin anymore!!!

Compare the two configure.php files:
/includes/configure.php
/admin/includes/configure.php

"something" is different between the two if the shop can see the database but the admin cannot ...

Also check the permissions on the two configure.php files before uploading the new ones ...

If they are set to 444 you need to either change them to 644 or delete them so that you can load the new files ... then, you can change the permissions back when done ...

I've been having the same issue trying to login to my admin panel (using the current version of zc, including the security patch). I have followed the above instructions, and I still cannot get in. When I type in my user name, and the password "admin" and click login, it just clears the fields and does nothing. When I click on "resend password", I never get the email. Please help as I know I have orders pending. Thanks.

Re: can't get into my webpage through admin anymore!!!

Could you redownload the Security Patch and reload it to your server?

It sounds like something isn't loaded correctly, if the only thing changed was adding the security patch ...

I downloaded the security patch again and reloaded to my server, no change. When I try to login with "Admin" and "admin", it first says "there was a security error when trying to login". I then click the "Login" button again, and the User name and Password fields just blank out.

My site was working just after I installed the patch. I'm not certain what changed to disable the admin login. I do have a backup of my store dated just after the security install. Should I restore the MySQL database backup? Will I lose the orders currently pending?

Also, a question if I may (probably a dumb one). The instructions in the security patch say to rename your "admin" folder. My tree structure is: public_html, with the "admin" folder within it. Is this the folder I should rename? By renaming it, will this affect any files that are pointing to it?

Thanks for your help as always.

Re: can't get into my webpage through admin anymore!!!

You want to rename that directory ...

You will see:
/admin
/download
/editor
/includes

plus some other directories and files ...

Once renamed, you need to change the file:
/admin/includes/configure.php

NOTE: /admin will be your new directory name

and fix the paths that were /admin to the new directory ...

You also want to review and cleanup any issues that might be hacked files ...

"Admin" is already the name of that directory... so I do not have to change anything then right?

Also, I still cannot access my admin panel, which is now becoming critical. Any help in this area is most appreciated.
