You appear to be using zencart of a version 1.3.x but I think that you are also using a template that is table based for an older version and this can be a problem.
The use of some templates that were for earlier versions sometimes included several altered files to control the layout and other things. If the template is not or has not been updated for 1.3.x this could be the base of your problem.

i also had to rename the header file becuase it was giving me errors when i first installed it. I renamed it from tpl_header to header and dropped it in the includes folder... then it started working fine... well as fine as this goes anyways

Last updated on: 2005-04-25 05:07:16This is the problem as ZenCart 1.3.0 was published this year 2006. and does not use the numerous tables that the previous versions did.
Did you notice that your view is significantly different than the screen shot provided?
This is not a particularly complicated layout. I suggest that you remove all the files that it came with. and create your own based on the template_default fileset and then things will begin to take shape and you will not have to fight these elusive things. This template is just not compatible with 1.3.x...

This is a pay-me-now or pay-me-later type of thing...there are most probably other items that will crop up as you try to use the payment option, shipping options etc. things that you have not encountered yet.
Search this site for the term template_default for the many posts against using the combination template files...and you are worse off using files not compatible at all with version 1.3.x

You got that wrong TOTALLY...The phrase that I used is one that refers to either do it correct now or suffer the consequences later. It has not a thing to do with insinuating that it would require $ to get it done...
And if you are as GOOD as you claim to be, why would you not understand that a template that was last updated about 7 ZenCart realeases ago might not be up todate?
