Extra shipping costs

I am now selling goods that require next day delivery (they're aquatic shrimps) and they therefore have a shipping cost of £6.95.

At the moment my shipping is based on weight and the shrimp themselves weigh virtually nothing.

Goods weighing over 2kg cost £6.95 to send and I could put the shrimp weight at 2kg each (this would in a sense solve my problem). However if a customer clicked on estimating shipping and purchased 10 shrimp, the weight would show 20kg!! Would this matter or do you think that is odd?

Lastly, if customers spend over £50 they get free shipping. However with shrimp it can never be free shipping as they need to be sent on their own at the shipping cost of £6.95

Hope this all makes sense but I look forward to any advice.

Richard

Re: Extra shipping costs

You could always turn off the weight from displaying ...

Or, you could add an attribute for the extra charge ...

Note: if it is a 1 time charge ... meaning 1 shrimp or 20 shrimp need the extra $6.95 you can do that with attributes as well ...

Re: Extra shipping costs

NOTE: as an attribute ... the $6.95 will always happen regardless of Shipping Free as it is not true shipping it is just a charge ...

Sounds like this is what I need

Where can I find more info about setting up attributes as I have never done it before?

Re: Extra shipping costs

There are several threads on this and in the WIKI ...

Do a search on Option Name or Option Value or Attribute to find them ...

You will want to use the One Time Charge if this is 1 charge per product vs 1 charge per quantity of the Product ...

Another good way to understand them better is to set up a test directory with a test database and load the demo Products as these have many examples of how Zen Cart works ...

In the New v1.2 Category are Attributes and various things you can do with them in addition to the other Products that use them ...
