friggin style sheet

hi all,

is there no way to quickly and properly identify which classes in the style sheet affect what?

zen carts great and im not complaining, but this part of the customization process feels unnecessarily tedious. sometimes futile.

ive been searching and trying many things all day and there are about 3 classes which i just can not find.

the categories sidebox, the active link is bolded. id like to disable that. cant see how.

the text that says "main page sample text". id like to change the colour of that. easier said than done.

i cant believe that the ZC community fields every one of these types of questions every day! so maybe im missing something.

is there a way to quickly identify which classes in the style sheet affect what?

sincere thanks,
Marco.

Re: friggin style sheet

Break down and get a few tools to help you ...

FireFox Browser ...

Plug-Ins:
Web Developer's Tool Kit ...

There are a few others ... but these would surely save you a lot of time ...

Perhaps someone has the thread handy with all the nice links to these wonderful plugins ...

Re: friggin style sheet

And when in doubt ... View Source is a very handy built in tool to your browser to see just what is happening where ...

That's the active link (But don't quote me on it)

To change the text on the main pages simply follow the implicit instructions
"This section of text is from the Define Pages Editor located under Tools in the Admin"

Go to your admin panel > Tools > Define Pages. Then Select main page and you can edit your text there. You should be able to force it to use whatever colour you want by giving the #ref

Re: friggin style sheet

ajeh and blue thanks for the help.

ajeh, i have both of those tools. but some of the "paths" that the webdeveloper extension shows are too long and dont fit in the status bar of the browser below. so i cant really tell which class its trying to show me. nobodys fault.

blue

i dont think thats the right code. the active link becomes bold. not changes color. ive been at this literally for 10 hours.

Re: friggin style sheet

Do you have a link to your site?

And what template are you using, is it a custom one you made or a standard one?

Re: friggin style sheet

Well, its boldened text your looking for? Well have you tried "finding" all cases of teh word "bold" in your CSS using the find function in a program such as notepad? Just a thought

Re: friggin style sheet

definately. that webdeveloper extension is unbelievable actually. i think i downloaded it because of a post you made in another thread. im definately keeping this tool close.

ive another question i figure i might as well keep in this thread.

in 1.2 i could make a category and have a description for, and thats all. it appears that in this version unless i put a product in there, a message appears that says "there are no products ..."

is there a way to get rid of this? or is there a more appropriate way to simply put a document in the category sidebox. like an "about us". i dont want to put it in the information sidebox.

many many thanks,
Marco.

Re: friggin style sheet

Currently, whether there are products or not, the Category shows the categories_description

Perhaps it is your template?

There is a switch now that 1 Product in a Category will go directly to the Product _info page and skip the listing ...

But the Empty Category will show the Category Description above the message:
There are no products to list in this category.

Re: friggin style sheet

no way to get rid of the "no products" message.

what i did before was create an empty category and just put the info i wanted into the categoryes description. but it would look dumb with that message below it.

Re: friggin style sheet

If that is the only Category you intend to do that for, you could customize the display so that you do not see that message ...

Re: friggin style sheet

Here is a slick trick ...

You go to the Tools ... Developer's Tool Kit ...

Type in the text you see in the bottom input box:

There are no products to list in this category.

Search the Catalog ...

It comes up with a define for you:

/includes/languages/english/index.php

Line #40 : define('TEXT_NO_PRODUCTS', 'There are no products to list in this category.');

Next search for the constant ... the define stuff in the CAPS ...
TEXT_NO_PRODUCTS

This comes up with files that use that constant ...

Now you know what file to copy to your templates and overrides directory and then customize to remove that text from displaying ...

NOTE: You may need to modify the class used as well to remove the empty box that will be there ...

Re: friggin style sheet

Note: you may wish to customize further based on if coming from the categories selection or via a search ... otherwise a search will not mention not products found based on search criteria ...
