Re: Attachments in emails and newsletters

No, attachments are not a feature allowed. Why would you need an attachment?

I think what Kim's really stating is ... what is your business need that suggests attachments would be beneficial?

Attachments generally are a challenge to code, and often you are better off sending a link to a file on your server, or using an external mailer from your PC to send mass mailings if using attachments.

Re: Attachments in emails and newsletters

We were wanting to send out weekly emails with a word document attached but we'll send out the link instead as suggested, thanks.

Re: Attachments in emails and newsletters

I also have a need for sending attachments as I send proof designs to customers before their order is completed.

I have been doing this all along by emailing directly from my email client -- outside of the shopping cart -- but would love to be able to send the images by uploading to their account via admin and the comments area in the order edit. So that when they log in they can see the image in the order details.

I guess you are saying there's no contribution that would accomplish this and the only other thing besides sending via email outside of the cart would be to upload to a folder on my site and send the link via the order update? Heck, even if that IS the only way it beats what I have been doing all along. :D Many email clients eat my emails because of the attachments. Thanks for the suggestion.

Is there a way to make a URL clickable when the customer views the order update message online?

I hadn't tried that before today, and had only suggested it as a possible option earlier. Sadly, it doesn't seem to work that way.
The URL will show up fine in the confirmation email as clickable, though.

For the order-history approach, you could do some custom coding work to add an additional field in the edit screen, and then in the template display that field's contents as a clickable link.

Thanks for that info DrByte! I have tested out sending the links and it was just like you said -- the emails come through clickable. Instead of the coding (which I try to avoid at all costs since I only have enough php knowledge to be a danger to myself), I will edit the text that I include with the link to say

"if you are viewing this message via the catalog, please copy and paste the link above into a browser window to view."

Even that way is going to save me tons of confusion about order status and approvals.
