Replace Sidebox with Image Button

Hello.

I'd like to replace the sideboxes in the right column on the main page with Image Buttons (rollovers unnecessary) to specials and bestsellers. The buttons will measure something like 150 px X 150 px.

The only sidebox I'd like to keep is in the left column and that's the categories one, but I'd like to know how to turn off the header and footer bars.
