Product List tabular vs New Products non-tabular

Product List tabular vs New Products non-tabular

Is it my imagination or does the general products listing use a "tabular" template while the New Products and Featured Products use a somewhat hard coded version of the same thing?

Why and is it possible to get them all using "tabular" template.

The two listings are completely separate groups of code with very different sets of switches and controls and logic driving them. There are plans to merge them all into one batch of code for an upcoming release ... it's not a pretty job ;)
