requiring credit card for free order

I am trying to set up a zen cart to have the option of choosing to join a "monthly wine club" that is free. It works well. They select it, it checks them out with 1 item being the "club" for FREE but, I need it to require the credit card info (eventhough they aren't paying for anything) b/c it will be referenced in the future when they place orders. I can't seem to find anything in the forums of how to set this up. Is it possible??

How exactly will you be referencing their credit card later?
Where are you planning to store their credit card numbers?

The credit card is kept on file so that when wine is sent to them throughout the year, it's automatically charged.
