Link inventory to 2 products

Suppose you sold "Widget-A" but also sold sets of "Widget-A, B & C."
When you run out of A, you want both to show "sold out".
Is there a way to do this?

For example, you might sell a bracelet and also a set of matching bracelet/necklace/earrings.

Any ideas?

You might look at how you intend on offering the set of A, B, & C.

Look at the download area here for the "Cross Sell" module and see if this could assist you in creating the sets and mitigate the inventory concern.

Re: Link inventory to 2 products

Thanks, Kobra. That looks very cool and I think I will use it for a related issue, but it doesn't appear to link inventory in the way I need.

I have another example: suppose I sell travel packages and I have reserved 4 rooms at a specific hotel. If I sell all the rooms thru "Package A" but "Package B" also uses those rooms then I need to show "sold out" for both packages.

Any way to do this?

I must not understand exactly what you are attempting to do.

AS I see what you have described is PkgA or PkgB:

I would enter these as separate products, Xsell the rooms(setup as another product with inventory of X#) so that when the rooms are soldout they could not be added to any other package with success.

Re: Link inventory to 2 products

Thanks Kobra, that's a good idea. I've been thinking along the same lines and I will play around with XSELL, but I think my client wants it more like this:

https://www.sportstravel.com/IPROTOUR/BUY1.ASP?ACTION=NEW&DP=&PROGRAMID=PP101512

where the room occupancy and event tickets are together (also would be GREAT to have dynamically updated prices).

BTW is there a way to make quantity a drop-down? I see I can do this with options/attributes. Does xsell do this?

And can I have itemized prices in the cart? :shocking:

Am I going overboard yet??

I am not a coder, and your link looks to be a "Custom" arranged implementation.

ZenCart is more generic but is customizable through custom coding.

So short answer is yes these types of things are possible with the proper coding.

They basically are not "overboard" but are beyond my coding expertise.

One would have to engage with the php coding on a fairly intimate level to acheive some of the items you have outlined.

Re: Link inventory to 2 products

Thanks, Kobra. Yes, that site uses a software package that was written for travel packages (in ASP :schmoll: ).

I've been attempting to learn more PHP recently, but I don't think my client wants to pay for days/weeks of coding. Thanks for the ideas, I will install xsell and play around.
