Auspost and GST

I know this subject has some posts on the archives but I don't think it sorts it out!

When Auspost goes to the Auspost website and calculates shipping it does it accurately - to a point. Auspost is a GST supply and as such the rates returned by the Auspot website include a GST element.

i.e. shipping from Sydney to Sydney for a 200g package is $3.70. Setting Auspot rates to be GST Payable in the postal module causes the order total to show $4.07 and 37c GST. The 37c GST has to be shown because invoices should detail the GST paid. But the 4.07 is now gross/gross.

It needs to show $3.70 on the shipping line and 34c as the GST charged. It could also show $3.36 on the shipping line and 34c GST Charged providing the invoice total is $3.70 for the shipping.

Any help on how to configure this please?

Re: Auspost and GST

The gst does not have to itemise everything on the invoice. All it needs to show is the gst component on the total invoice.

R-Lo:

is it possible to show gst on shipping alone, as products do not have gst, business is not registered for it..

If your business is not registered for gst, you cannot claim back the gst component on the post charges.

The amount you then charge the customer for gst, does not include gst as you don't charge gst to your customer.

Putting a gst component on the post charge on the invoice would imply to the customer that they can claim this back from the ATO when in fact they can't because you don't charge gst on your business.

The fact that the post office charge you gst is irrelevant as you are charging them the fee. The post office is not charging them the fee.

(disclaimer to non australians, this is specific to Australian gst)
