No "add category" button!?

This might sound a little bit noobish, but i can't find any option or button to add a category. I only see a button called add new article. Please help..

You're in the admin (https://www.yourcart.com/admin%29, you hover over Catalog, you click on Categories/Products, and there is no "new category" button?:huh:

I know this is an old post but Im having the same issue. I have no add category button. Whats up with that? Using the latest version out

That is correct there is no button to add category.
UPDATE: I can however use the url string
/categories.php?cPath=29&action=new_category and it goes to the add cetegory section.

Nope not there, it seems that the page isnt loading all the way but then I go into the sub cats and its not there either.

yes I have about 7,000 products that were imported. I may just do a fresh install and try this again since I havent launched the store yet

You cannot ADD a sub-category if products already exist in its parent, and I think what you have done is loaded all your products into category "top"... This will prevent you from creating any categories and sub-categories.

Did you use easy populate? If so, just change the STATUS of the products in your spreadsheet from 1 to 9 and run the TAB-DELIMITED txt file through easypop again. (STATUS = 9 will DELETE all products.)

Then, set up your categories, and (in your EP sheet) mirror the categories names and levels, before you reset STATUS to 1 and re-upload via EP. See my WIKI on Easy Populate.

That's what I suspected which is why I asked. Schoolboy has explained the problem. Once you have products, you can't create categories. Categories and products can't to exist on the same level.

thanks very much,i meet the same problem,with ur answer i reslove it,thanks.so if someone cant see the button"add new category",please check whether in the main category there are some products or not,delete the product,then the button will turn out.its wonderful~:clap:
