Are Automatic Customer ID's Possible?

(this question currently applies to version 1.27d)

Is there a way when a new customer signs up to have something, i.e. database, file, etc. to autogenerate and assign a customer id to customers?

It wouldn't show when they sign-up but it would be included in the welcome email.

Just wondering if this is possible.

There is already a customers_id assigned when a customer signs up that is hidden from the customer ...

Are you referring to the numeric sequence that is assigned which is basically the number customer they are?

I was thinking more like an alpha numeric sequence. Is that possible?

What would be wrong with the one built in? It works ... no mess ... no smell ... no bugs ... :cool:

What are you trying to do with it?

There is nothing wrong with the existing system, I just need it or something else to do more.

Basically I need to find a way to have some customers stand out from others. Some people signing up as customers will be regular customers that purchase, others will be the music artists whose items are being sold in the store, and others will be referrals.

I need a way to be able to tell which are in each customer type.

I also need the music artists to be able to see one product page that only they can see and place an order from. Ultimately I will also need a page for them that is an upload page (which I have yet to figure out how to turn on).

The music artists will be assigned a customer id and a product id.

Have you looked at setting up groups? Again this is there and not buggy and works. For the other things you would have to determine how to hook to the groups for validation or something like that.

Groups? I must have really missed something in the admin section! I guess that's the cost of setting stores up but never running them.

Is the group feature in v 1.27d?

Groups are available.

Admin > customers > group pricing > insert > and name the group

For your purpose the discount can be overlooked.

Then add customers to the groups.
