Dependent and user-entered attributes, yay or nay?

I'm about to delve into ZenCart and have a couple of questions before I proceed:

  1. For regulatory reasons we need to obtain certain pieces of information from the customer at the time of sale. Can I make the user fill in a few text boxes as part of the order (a textfield attribute type?), and can I make some required and others optional?

  2. Does Zencart have dependent attributes? For example, if I were selling computers I may give the customer a whole bunch of drop-downs with choices of CPUs, RAM, video cards, hard drives, and so on. What I'd like is for the customer to get a different choice of, say, video cards dependent on which CPU they selected, or, if they opted for a small hard drive maybe I don't want to offer them choice of a tape drive... Is something like this possible?

Thanks muchly

Re: Dependent and user-entered attributes, yay or nay?

There is a text input field attribute type. I don't know if they can be made required to fill in, though other attribute types can have a choice required. If you need certain defined information, it is possible to code a test in the shopping cart to ensure the entered info is of the right type.

Dependent attributes are not (yet) a feature of Zen Cart. The next release is planned to include improved attributes, so hopefully this will be part of it.
