white space in IE, not in Firefox

I have been struggling with overrides for about 2 weeks, and cannot seem to fix a certain issue with white space.

Between my header area and left column area, a white space appears in IE. I can't seem to get rid of it. I tried commenting out lines which seemed to cause the problem, but it has no effect. IS this common?

Yes this problem is common. Your description is right on the button as it is widely known in web design circles as the IE Whitespace Bug. Personally I think that there are several IE Whitespace Bugs, but I won't bore you with that here.

There are various solutions, OK workarounds. Your site lends itself nicely to the following. Find the the styling in your stylesheet.css for #contentMainWrapper and add "margin-top:-2px" to it.
