Re: Checkout without account

New Question-

Is there a way to bypass the option to create an account and go straight to the billing info page...

With the Mod to review orders off w/ e-mail and order#, I don't the customer account.

Yes, I do rock. Just kidding! I am really just a big nerd who messes around with code when its late and I am delirious. And drunk. :wink:
But the credit should go to people like PaulM and others who really know what they are doing. :smile:

Re: Checkout without account

Hello, May I asking some STEP 0 and STEP 1 questions here?@@~

I try to read the installation insturctions, but coudn't figure out how to "back up your store" ---Is it means just download all the site floders from the server??@@~

and in STEP one, "Go through all directories and change all "YOUR TEMPLATE" directory names to the name of your actual template." Which "directories" means in here??>_< I made a guess it ask me to check all the directories in my local IntegratedCOWOA(1.3.8) folder and change somes folders name to my actual template name?Am I right?@@~

-----------------------------STEP 0 AND 1 copied from the instructions--------
STEP 0 - BACKUP YOUR STORE AND YOUR DATABASE, BACKUP YOUR STORE AND YOUR DATABASE. To do this, download your zen cart directory to your computer. I usually download it to my computer twice, because shoddy FTP programs sometimes miss files. You can read the faq for instructions on backing up your database or you can use the database backup module.

STEP 1 - Go through all directories and change all "YOUR TEMPLATE" directory names to the name of your actual template.

Re: Checkout without account

That means the NAME OF "YOUR TEMPLATE" is not the name you use for your template. If your template name is mud then that is the folder you should look into and make the changes to the files you are told to............. You should be in some trouble if you do not know that YOUR TEMPLATE isn't really the name of your template.

Play with it long enough and you will break it.

Answered through PM, but for anyone else... use the manual code changes found in install\overrides-writes.txt if you are looking to preserve your custom template. Doing it this way is also nice if you have other mods installed and don't want to screw everything up.

Re: Checkout without account

craftzombie: Thank you so much for keeping this much-needed addon going. I'm new to Zen-Cart. I have just installed Zen-Cart on a client's site. So far so good. I have not done any customization yet. My question is: is this the right time to install the addon? Or should I do it AFTER I've customized my store? Thanks.

Re: Checkout without account

Hi I have been using the COWOA for a while now, and think it's a great mod.

Recently I had a telephone order come through and took the details. I placed the order myself for the customer going throught checkout without account.

This threw up a problem.

I placed the customers items in the basket and selected checkout without account. Entered the customers address details and clicked to continue. The progress bar moved up in explorer, giving the impression it was doing something, but very slowly. If I clicked on the continue button again it said the form had been submitted and was in progress.

Eventually an email came through to me saying that an account had been setup. This is bviously not sent to the customer. I waited probablt another 5 minutes and the page just stayed as it was with the progress bar giving the impression it was working, but very slowly.

In the end I pressed the back button in explorer and it took me to the page for changing account details. Surly this is a flaw. If the customer did this they would know an account has been created.

The long time lag for this page to process is most probably why on another site I have with much higher traffic, I have lots of people creating an account but not completing the order.

Anyway, does anyone have any idea what would cause this to happen.

I am running 1.3.8a of zen, but not sure which version of COWOA. Maybe someone can tell me where I can find that out.

Please excuse me if this is a previous problem, but I could not find it in the thread.

Laurie

Re: Checkout without account

Just to add to the above post, when I say creating an account, I mean customers are creating an account with the no account marker, but not completing the order to confirmation.

This does not happen all the time, and some orders do complete ok throught the COWOA system.

Have you tested this more than once? Are you sure it has nothing to do with your server?

I take phone orders quite a bit and I open COWOA accounts for them. I haven't experienced your problem. As far as them not completing orders, I think that is normal. In that past, if my site wasn't working properly, I would get an email from someone. I have tested my site a million times and I have a lot of successfully completed orders, but I still have cart abandonment. I myself abandon carts all the time. I stop myself before purchasing because I realize I can't really afford it. Or because I felt shipping was too high. Sometimes I wonder if certain people abandon because they were going to use a stolen credit card number and then they realized I ask for the CVV numbers.

Sorry, I wish I could be of more help, but I haven't experienced this and I'm not getting a bunch of people complaining of the same problem.

Re: Checkout without account

Hi

I want to switch to COWA on our main retail site without the option to allow the customer to create an account however when an existing customer who created an account before upgrading to COWA attempts to use the checkout process the shopping cart flags up that the email address is already in use. This is a big problem for us as we have a large database of customers and I don't want to keep the login option and want to switch entirely as many people bail out at the create account page (we have multiple sites and our newer COWA only sites convert much better).

Any ideas how to get around this?

Regards
Andy

Re: Checkout without account

tracstev:

....the shopping cart flags up that the email address is already in use.....

COWOA is designed to work that way. A current account holder cannot use COWOA using the same email address as their account uses.

You can try something.... although I have NOT tested anything so PLEASE backup your original file before trying this.....

in includes/modules/your_template/no_account.php, find:

 if (strlen($email_address) < ENTRY_EMAIL_ADDRESS_MIN_LENGTH) {
    $error = true;
    $messageStack->add('no_account', ENTRY_EMAIL_ADDRESS_ERROR);
  } elseif (zen_validate_email($email_address) == false) {
    $error = true;
    $messageStack->add('no_account', ENTRY_EMAIL_ADDRESS_CHECK_ERROR);
  } else {
    $check_email_query = "select count(*) as total
                            from " . TABLE_CUSTOMERS . "
                            where customers_email_address = '" . zen_db_input($email_address) . "'
                            and COWOA_account != 1";
    $check_email = $db->Execute($check_email_query);

    if ($check_email->fields['total'] > 0) {
      $error = true;
      $messageStack->add('no_account', ENTRY_EMAIL_ADDRESS_ERROR_EXISTS);
    }
  }

you can try changing all of the $error = true;
to $error = false;

I did this back in the day with the original create_account file (along with some other changes related to not requiring a password to be entered), before COWOA existed, so that I could allow duplicate email addresses. It worked well for me, but I never tried it with COWOA. If this doesn't work, you'll have to track down someone who really understands this code (I don't... i just fiddle a little) because I'm sure what you are looking for can be done.
