Scrolling Specials Sidebox v1.1

Hi all, sorry I haven't been around much lately I have been so busy with work!!!

I have had chance to look and update the scrolling specials sidebox, it now works good without any problems as far as I can see.

Update:

1. Fixed the problem where the first two products displayed were the same.

2. Changed code so it uses zen_small_image instead of the full size image scaled down.

3. Fixed the alt tag for the image it was displaying a number before and now it displays the product description.

To do:

1. Make the speed, size, direction updatable from admin (learning curve here)

2. Get rid of the marquee tag and use DHTML for a smoother scroll.

just ignore my previous post as i just managed to fix your mod to be compatible with ZC v1.3.x but without utilising the zen_get_small_image function! thanx mate for this great contribution! :thumbsup:

At the top of this page, there is a "downloads" link. From that link, click on Sideboxes. You'll find the contribution in the list.

can i do it without the permission of the original author? because i intend to do it after i get permission to upload it from sn0ut... that is why i am uploading it as an attachment for sn0ut to review it! :laugh:

Permission is always nice.
However, it can also be uploaded, and if there is a problem, a new version can be posted to replace it, etc.

As a sidenote, if I recall correctly, the one sn0ut originally posted for 1.2.7 appeared to have image-handler code in it. I didn't look in great detail, but I think I saw that in there... Not sure if that was intended. I might be eating too many marshmallows though and be way off track...

thanx DrByte! i am not so sure about that image handler function as i only make minor changes by not utilising the zen_get_small_image function, that's all! this is also because of the files structure of the latest version. the rest is still the original coding from sn0ut! its working well at my site...

I am also using this mod. Since there is such a demand for it I will be uploading the 1.3.0.2 compatible version for inclusion in the Downloads section.

I added two lines to the top and one at the bottom to make the sidebox 1.3.0.2 "DIV" compatible. Without these lines you may loose the bottom border of your sidebox on some templates (eg. nightfall)

Time for me to start giving something back to the community. Full credit still goes to the original author though.

Check out the download section. The version you uploaded still do not contaon the .DIV statements required for 1.3.0.2. I see the moderators also added my changed version to the download section. This version does contain the .DIV statements and is working perfectly on my store. Your version still drops the bottom border.
Please note that all credit for this mod remains with you. I am just trying to assist.:cool:

If you can collaborate and determine which one is most correct and which one to remove, I can deactivate the incorrect one.... without necessarily needing another upload. However, if another upload is needed due to additional changes, go ahead.

Is there a way to limit the number of specials it uses. It is loading all my specials which it making the page take a long time.

Just add the following to the end of the first query in the file

limit ??? where ??? is the number of items you wish to display.

or

replace the query with the following where I added a limit of 5.
