Manufacturers box not showing until...

1.3.0.2 New install.
Pulled my hair out trying to figure out why the manufacturer side box wouldn’t show up.

The side box, even after manufactures have been entered will not show up until after, and only after, at least 1 manufacturer has been assigned to at least 1 product.

This is a frustrating issue if you are installing and configuring before entering products.

Don’t know if it’s a bug but it was frustrating and time consuming.

New version is great!!

Sorry, but that is just the way it works. Silly question, why would you manufacturers listed without any products?

If you have to have the Manufacturer's sidebox show when there are no products ...

While it doesn't make a lot of sense, the feature is there for you in the Configuration ... Maximum Values ...

Manufacturers List - Verify Product Exist
Verify that at least 1 product exists and is active for the manufacturer name to show

Note: When this feature is ON it can produce slower results on sites with a large number of products and/or manufacturers
0= off 1= on

Like I sad, I didn’t know if it was a bug or not.
In my case and maybe others, I was trying to get the template set and the look and feel of the site going before I added product. In my past experience I have had to reload Zen for one reason or another after putting a lot of time in entering products so I skipped that part to start.

I may be the only one that thinks this way but it caused a lot of frustration to figure this out. Just wondering if it should be turned on out of the box so others don’t have the same issue as I did. In the realm of setting up a cart its a little formality and most likely not an issue for most.

You folks have been working hard and it shows!

That is a problem with the default setting of switches ...

Which ever way we throw it, design it, default it, lay it out, etc. ... the roar of the crowd sings praise for the genius behind it ... then about 3-5 minutes later ... the tide goes the other way ... :cry:

Just as an addendum ... there is already a switch to control this !

Admin->Configuration->Maximum Values->Manufacturers List - Verify Product Exist.

By default it's set to 1, which means a given manufacturer won't show unless a product is tied to it.

Setting it to 0 displays all manufacturers regardless of having products associated or not.

I have products & manufacturers - but no scroll box is displaying just the header - manufacturers

I have in admin config>maximum values got the manufacturers list -scroll box size/style set to 0

& Manufacturers list verify product exist set to 0

I have the manufacturers layout box switched on - but no list displays?

yes - the manufactures and products are matched up (I have also tried setting it so the manufacturers don't have to have products to display - but no joy)

When I right click and view source I can see the coding for the drop down - it just isn't showing on the page.

What happens if you switch to classic ... does this work now?

Do you have the Right Column Global width set to 0?
