How can I sort the shipping so that someone ordering a product from the Uk doesnt pay as much as someone ordering in the USA. As my store is based in the UK. Is there an easy way to set this up?

flat rate. But I dont mind installing other methods.
I just basically want to sell a CD to people. If someone buys it in America it will cost them say £2 shipping, if they buy it in the UK it will cost them £1. I need to the cart to reconise what country the buyer is from and calculate the shipping cost for each country.

You could clone the shipping module and then set a zone on them so that you get the different rates of $1.00 for the whole shipping cost to the UK and $2.00 for the whole shipping cost to the US ...
