:dontgetit
WHY ???

Like I dont have enough problems with this!
My flash header was working just fine a few days ago....

Now, it works fine in firefox, but refuses to come up in IE...

http://www.sbservices.us/store

I went back through previous posts regarding flash headers and the sites from many of these people are doing the same thing...

Anyone know why?

I tried changes to the tpl.header file, CSS and everywhere else, still doesnt work...

THANKS!
Your help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Flash header stopped working in IE

Tina!

Thanks for the help and link.....
BUT...
Thats NOT the problem....
Ive got workarounds for that annoying 'click to activate BS in IE...

In this case, the flash header is NOT showing AT ALL....

Most flash enabled sites havent updated the workaround, but the flash object still shows...
This one isnt showing at all !!!

Take a look at the following site....

http://fishmakerart.com/

'Click to activate' ..... yea... but at least you can still see it;
Mine - you cant even see the friggin thing!
:(

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Rick

Re: Flash header stopped working in IE

:shocking:

You actually SEE it ???
The Karate logo, flash header....
In IE ???

No way!

Ive cleared cache and all Sys Tmp files...
All I get is a Blank, White box where the object should be...
The IE status bar shows:
"... 1 item remaining... Opening page..." and it just hangs there, it never loads...

But I see it in firefox...

This is SO ridiculous!!!
I dont know what else to do...

Thanks,
Rick

Re: Flash header stopped working in IE

Yeah, your flash doesn't work via IE 7 either.. Depending on your host, check out this htaccess mod. You might have to fish the net to get more background on that issue. You could also view the source of that fish site and see if the flash script is different than yours, if so.. then utilize that one. Also, there are some errors to work around here.

Re: Flash header stopped working in IE

It's not an SSL problem at all, disregard that article.

You know what's strange?

The .swf embedding are pretty much the same, the one you have and that fish site. I can see the flash on the fish site perfectly via IE and FF and I can call up the flash via direct URL in both browsers. On the other hand, I can't call up yours with IE(nor view it on your site). It's been a looong time since I experimented with flash, I was going to put some on my page on MySpace and never got around to it. So, I'm definitely not blessed with Flash trouble shooting. I just don't get how it works on FF and not IE. The fish site has the flash placed in a different location, they put it into the header.. while you put yours into the logo wrapper. Ahhhh, I can't seem to help you out on this problem, but hopefully someone can use the info to point you in the right direction. :lookaroun

Re: Flash header stopped working in IE

I dunno what you all are seeing - I went back again this morning , and I SEE this flash in IE, I see it in Avant,, in OPera it appears but then it seems to go away, and today I DON'T see but a plain white box in Firefox.

I dunno why it is - but it's obviously browser/flash related:sleepy:

Re: Flash header stopped working in IE

Ok everybody, I think I figured it out - or at least part of it...
check it out now!

http://www.sbservices.us/store

Like I said... As if I dont have enough coding problems already, Microcrap has to add more aggravation...
:censored:

I checked other sites I have and noted that the vast majority of my swf files were working just fine - with the exception of that occasional 'click to activate' on those objects for which I havent added the code for the external .js file that I use as a workaround...
On some pages I couldnt get the flash to load - as is the case here...
:dontgetit

It became immediately obvious that the files that WERENT showing are those on which I had used a PRELOADER - to distract users boredom during loading time because of the swf file size...
:frusty:

I removed the PRELOADER from this - and several of my other swf files and ....

Now it works!

Word to designers!!
IF THIS is something you're having a problem with...
LOSE the preloader! At least until you can find a workaround for that too...

THIS is exactly one of the reasons why Firefox is SO MUCH better... it doesnt get all choked up with these things like IE ...

Re: Flash header stopped working in IE

Hi

Perhaps you could help shed some light on a strange little problem I'm having.

I created a Flash header which includes buttons to access the various sections on a new site I'm designing.

In Flash 8 everything works as expected no worries.

In Flash 9, Firefox and IE, the buttons won't work until I press the Home text link (top-left) then everything is fine.

Any ideas coz it's baffling me :(

The site can be viewed here : http://www.vision-itservices.co.uk/ecommercedemo/

Thanks

MK

Re: Flash header stopped working in IE

I see what you mean...
Thats certainly an unusual problem.
It loaded fine in firefox, but I see the problem in IE...

Are you using any pre-loaders?
Are the links in those buttons relative or absolute?
Id have to see the flash coding for those buttons to try and figure it out.
You may have to insert absolute paths in those links - and include the absolute path of the store...

Let me know;

I was just looking at your coding and it seems you are using framesets...
That might have something to do with it... IE, Flash and Zen dont play together very well under framesets...

Re: Flash header stopped working in IE

I have a flash header that does not have a preloader.

Without the JavaScript work around to remove the "Click to Activate" in IE, it works in Firefox, but not in IE.

When I put the script in for the work around, it does not work in either Firefox or IE.

I've used this same method on many other sites and it works fine. Zen Cart's coding doesn't seem to mess with anything that should make a difference on this though.

Confused.

Check my site with the problem here: http://www.heatherdidit.com/shop

Re: Flash header stopped working in IE

I was wondering if you knew how to add flash to the header of Zen Cart. What I mean is I can add the flash to the header of zen cart however I can't seem to add a preloader that can load in the flash content.

if you want to see what I mean you can check out the site

www.stoppoints.com

you can see the flash has a preloader when it loads on the index page but when you click on buy and zen cart is loaded I can not make the flash preloader work so I had to just load in the flash by itself thus there is a black space until the flash is loaded any help would be great

thank you very much for taking the time to read this message:smile: any help would be great

Re: Flash header stopped working in IE

The real solution for that is to change the directory of your flash site location.

Example are here:

<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,19,0" width="750" height="175"> <param name="movie" value="**http://www.biogreentee.com/includes/templates/classic/images/bannergreentee.swf**" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="**http://www.biogreentee.com/includes/templates/classic/images/bannergreentee.swf**" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="750" height="175"></embed> </object>

This directory: http://www.biogreentee.com/includes/templates/classic/images/bannergreentee.swf must be the same in the top directory.

That is why sometimes it loads in IE after that it's gone. That's what I experienced. I just change the directory.
