Unable to add new product

First, a little history. I installed and successfully configured ZenCart in spare time in the last couple of months. I even got all the templates and styles looking good. Now it was time to add actual products and get this going.

I previously had an OSC installation (http://stitches.dorianmirth.com/shop/) that it would be nice to convert data from. I read all the FAQs about conversion and gave it a try finally yesterday. What resulted what a crash course in mysql operations that now I'm hoping didn't just ruin everything. Actually at one point I did get all the data imported, however weird things kept cropping up like 274% discounts and continual errors about having both products and categories in a category though I could not see such a thing. I figured that I must have missed something in the structure and so cleared out all the imported data.

So, now I decided that in the time I spent troubleshooting importing, exporting and table structures I could have just manually added our tiny stock of 23 products. So that's what I decided to do today, until I ran into a problem.

After I added a category, then opened it up, then click on New Product all I get is essentailly blank screen. I say essentially because everything but content is there (admin headers, footers, menus, etc.). See a screenshot at http://www.stitchesofmirth.com/addproductblank.jpg.

ZenCart v1.3.0.1 [2006-05-02 22:22:45] (Fresh Installation)

Is there something lingering in the database causing these problems? The "categories.php" page does not appear to have been modified since installation so I don't think it got corrupted (as far as its ability to interact with the database). Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Unable to add new product

In the database ... viewing with phpMyAdmin ... if you were to browse the products table ... do you see values set for the field: products_type

If you were then to browse the table products_type ... do you see 5 Product Types defined?

Re: Unable to add new product

This sounds like a good path to try...my products table is currently empty as a result of my importing adventures (and subsequent reversal). There is a products_type field with a default of "1" [browsing the structure]. I do not have any product types defined (no data in that table), nor can I actually add any for that matter, at least through Admin.

I am definitely seeing the connection here, if there a way to find out those five product types and restore them?

I guess this is where multiple backups come in handy, just that I didn't think I had anything to backup yet! Looks like I might have figured out just enough in phpmyadmin to be dangerous

Re: Unable to add new product

Update: I used the sql code from the downloaded ZenCart installation to populate the product_type table and the product_type_layout table. All I did was copy any chunks having to do with these two tables and paste them as sql commands in phpMyAdmin. I am quite impressed with how that all works reall. Everything is working much, much better!

Successfully added a new product--an audio CD as it happens--so I was able to use the Product-Music type quite nicely. See it online here.

Ajeh, thanks so much for the immediate response and suggestions. I was looking at other threads around the board and noticed your helpful replies on many of them!
