index.php ? what directory to run?

Hi All

I have been configuring my zencart for the last week in a folder called zencart
so to run would say go.. https://www.myhost.co.uk/zencart

Now i would like to use it live but if say type https://www.myhost.co.uk it doesnt run , so where do I put it?

The root is called public_html and my provider said all files and folders need to be in there to run, is this correct?

I thought it was a security risk to have everything in this directory.

If so, what files or directories do i need to either password protect or set as read only?

I tried redirecting my domain from say https://www.myhost.co.uk to https://www.myhost.co.uk/shop but didnt work

Many Thanks

Rob

Re: index.php ? what directory to run?

From the FAQ-

I want to move/rename the folder Zen Cart is installed in on my server... How?

  1. Move/Rename the folder.

  2. Your /includes/configure.php and /admin/includes/configure.php files are used to point Zen Cart to the right folders. The DIR_FS_CATALOG, DIR_FS_SQL_CACHE, (and also DIR_FS_ADMIN in admin) need to be updated if you simply swap directory names. So, edit those files and upload your changes.

  3. You should also go into Admin->Config->Sessions and change the Session Directory to match the new setting for DIR_FS_SQL_CACHE ... or you could grab the "fix_cache_key" utility from the Downloads->Troubleshooting area to set it for you.

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Re: index.php ? what directory to run?

Cheers , I can see where you are coming from but there seems a catch from this end

Say you have

PUBLIC_HTML

index.html (standard html index file provided by host)

then

PUBLIC_HTML\SHOP <--zencart in here.

Up till now, to play around with it i have been typing www.myhost.co.uk\shop

and it loads. Now I would like to just type https://www.myhost.co.uk but how does it know to go into the SHOP directory. I know the config files need ammending, but they are in folders in the SHOP directory, so my host servers dont go in there , they just load the index.html...
Stuck
any ideas on that one?
Cheers loads
