Selling date specific events using Zen

Hi,

Our company is looking for a shopping which can be used in our new website.

This not the regular kind of shopping carts where we sell products, here we would be most of the time selling events/services eg. Cruise, Boat Ride, Go Karting, Events happeing on specific days of the week, etc.

I am not sure where I Zen Cart is customizable (with different kind of discounts, etc.) and functions as above.

Would appreciate a reply in this regards

Thanks and regards

HM

The simple answer is yes. Download ZenCart, install it on a test server (including the demo store) and play! Your items are still just "products" at the end of the day!

Re: Selling date specific events using Zen

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Anyways the produts we want to sell has to have an additional attribute for selection i.e. the date required, along with the number of tickets.

Can't seem to find that option in any of the shopping carts around.

Can you please advise.

Thanks and regards

HM

Re: Selling date specific events using Zen

you can create attributes listing the available dates in a pulldown, and the customer can select their preferred date from that.
Then they can select the quantity they want to purchase (same as buying 3 t-shirts of the same product) and add to cart.
When they checkout, they'll have an order showing their tickets with the quantity and date selected. You'll see the same in the Admin area for order-fulfillment.

Re: Selling date specific events using Zen

Hi,

I did see adding the attributes for a product but the problem is how will the tickets be counted.

I mean we have a bus tour which can accomodate only 40 ppl hence, the each day ticket sale should not go above 40. By adding date attribute to the product can we also limit the sale by the attribute as well.

Hope you got my point.

Thanks

Hmmm ... product-stock-by-attribute isn't built-in to Zen Cart yet, but is in development for an upcoming release. There is a contribution kicking around that has done something with it, which you might want to try out.

Re: Selling date specific events using Zen

Thanks.

Where can i find it? Do you mean that somebody has already worked on it before and it will be eventually added to the new release?

Re: Selling date specific events using Zen

Alternatively, why not just create each date's journey as a separate product with a stock quantity of 40?

You can simply duplicate one then edit the necessary sections.

Re: Selling date specific events using Zen

The events we are trying to sell are daily ones almost through out the year.

We have a events & happenings website for the City and we would want people to see where they can go and what they can do while in the city and accordingly book for various rides, shows, etc. going on.

Creating an entry for each day would flood the products page with hundreds of entries for only the Bus Tour, leave about the other offerings.

Re: Selling date specific events using Zen

12 categories (Jan-Dec), Sub-categories for each day, events for each day... may seem cumbersome, but an easy visual selection for your visitor...and because all events for a day are in one place, it's easier for your customers to locate and book multiple events for a day.

Just a thought.

In fact, if you use the BetterCategories to utilse the flyout, then they get to any day with one click!

Re: Selling date specific events using Zen

But this might make maintanence difficult. If i need to cut down the number of tickets for next 6 months from 40 to 30. I will have to go and edit all the entries one by one, considering the fact that this will be maintained by a operator who would take care of ticket sales and not a DB manager.
