Ultimate SEO URLs

Vertigo:

Hi Everyone

Question is quite simple, i allready have my zencart running, is there a way to implement this mod without reinstalling the whole website?

Or best option is to erase all data except the sql from the server, re-install zencart with SEO URL , than copy all the files and overwrite...

This looks a little scary for me as do not want to end up messing up the site...

Any comment will be highly appreciated

Thanks
Answer is you don't need to start over.
Installation instructions for this mod are very simple, just make sure you use the English version.
One more thing: previous to installing backup your database, there is a database backup utility by DrByte in the downloads area, install it and backup your DB first!

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Just a note on this...

Ultimate SEO does NOT do 301 redirection, if you have a site with ultimate seo, and the link looks like this
/car-c-54.html
try
/carsssss-c-54.html
or
index.php?main_page=index&cPath=54

Ultimate SEO urls does use 301 redirects.... for existing catalog links.

The carsssssssssssss thing can never be an issue as it cannot be indexed without a link to it, how would it be discovered?

Additionally, even if it were, Google knows which page is the authority for the duplicate content and will not serve the other up for organic searches.

Duplication of content is a fact of life... Large sites will almost always have some, it is hardly able to be avoided. But 1 page of 20, no big deal. We know that the carssss page is duplicate and shouldn't rank anyhow, so its a non issue.

However, when you take the duplication to a canonical level, you have a genuine problem as the level of duplicate becomes a large percentage and then the filters will kick in an affect the entire site's ability to rank effectively.

One other time that the duplication is a bigger deal at a single page level is your main page... So you have people linking to the domain url and to index.php and thus can have your PageRank split... Then you got trouble.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Nice thread.
I have two more questions:

  1. What is COWA? I googled that and found unrelated answers.
  2. Does Simple SEO work with EZ pages? Maybe better posted in the appropriate thread, just let me know.
    Thanks.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

OK, I found "yes" answer for question 2 in the Simple SEO URLs thread.
So disregard, sorry about that.
I only have the question about COWA, anybody know what that is?
Thanks.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

A bit of a pain to have to go into the mysql db and remove those table entries it would be nice for the plugin to use an xml language file rather then have the language in the DB. For anyone who is good with mysql / php i was about to try and edit seo.install.php to update or replace the entries, im not sure if i can just change INSERT INTO with another function to replace the data in the tables. But if anyone made that file available it may help some people who aren't familiar with phpmyadmin etc. Glad i was able to find a fix for this so quickly i almost got turned off to zencart.

If you just go back two pages in the thread you will find detailed instructions on how to uninstall Spanish version and load English.
Some Zen Cart admin should address the issue of the Spanish version being on top.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

I've tried to uninstall this mod by following the instructions at:
magic-seo-url.com/zencart/tips/removing-ultimate-seo-urls.html

that didn't work for me. I've already deleted all the files from the site, but it's still in the admin. How can I remove it completely? I read about a PHP script to remove database entries, but don't know how to create that, or if that will even help. Can somebody please help me remove this ? I am using ZC version 1.3.8.

Thanks in advance.

If you know how to browse the records in your MySQL database using a utility such as phpmyadmin, you should backup your database, then delete 17 records from the configuration table, and 1 record from the configuration_group table. The configuration records all have a value in the configuration_key field which includes "SEO" somewhere in the string. The first should be "SEO_ENABLED", and the other 16 should follow right after it. The configuration_group record has a configuration_group_title of "SEO URLs".

A good SQL programmer might come up with a couple of DELETE queries that would do the same thing, and they could be run from the "Install SQL patches" feature, I think.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

I wasn't familiar with the PHPmyadmin until now. I found the SEO URL in the configuration group ID and deleted that. That by itself removed it from the admin. Under the configuration tables, there are records that begin with SEO and then there are some that are like this: USE_SEO_CACHE_CATEGORIES. Should I delete ALL that have SEO anywhere in the record? Altogether there are 17 records in the configuration table.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Hi,
I'm also getting this error:

[Mon Sep 15 17:11:43 2008] [error] [client 66.249.73.20] Options FollowSymLinks or SymLinksIfOwnerMatch is off which implies that RewriteRule directive is forbidden: /var/www/vhosts/dgtech.co.nz/httpdocs/index.pl

My .htaccess file is shown in my previous post and it looks like Options FollowSymLinks in on- i have no idea of what this means
