Changing the original ZenCart color

  1. How can I change the original brown/orange ZenCart color?

  2. Are the Templates that are available for download, simply different colored templates?

  3. Is there a way to view each Template, before I download one?

  4. If not, can anyone direct me to different sites with different Templates?

Thanks.

Chis - click on Downloads - above this spage - in silver- 3rd button from the left.
Then click on templates.
There are donated / color changed templates there.

Re: Changing the original ZenCart color

Thank you. I have already gone there.
It appears that I have to download each one to view what it looks like.
Are there any thumbnails to get an idea? Or do i have to download each one to see it?

Re: Changing the original ZenCart color

Yeah, thumbnails are not yet available for instant viewing in the 'downloads' section. You will have to download most templates to view the screenshot in the images folder. I think the majority of us have made threads in 'Contributed Templates' that include a screenshot, if you would like to browse there first. That way, you won't have to download all the templates to see what they look like.

Re: Changing the original ZenCart color

If you're really set on using the 'Classic' template, mostly changing the image files is in order. The image file 'tile_back.jpg' would have to be tinted or replaced. Secondly, you'll have to go through two stylesheets to change text, border, and other colors. That's why we tried to point you in the right direction. To work on 'Classic', search the forum and you'll find archive threads relating to what you want to do.

Re: Changing the original ZenCart color

Thanks for your reply.
Could you please clarify what you mean by "we tried to point you in the right direction"?

Additionally, I have searched "the forum and you'll find archive threads relating to what you want to do", but I didn't find what I was looking for.

I was hoping someone could explain "go through two stylesheets to change text, border, and other colors"

Thanks again.

Re: Changing the original ZenCart color

If you really want to use 'Classic' ... post your URL and explain what areas you want done, I'll help you.

Re: Changing the original ZenCart color

Thanks so much for your offer. It's very kind of you.
I just want to change all the horizontal bars from the original classic orange/brown to blue.

Just curious, why is "Classic" not popular?

I looked at the blue templates, but didn't like the color. Wanted to choose my own.

I'd be glad to switch to a blue template, if that would be a better choice, but I'd still want to change all the horizontal bars to my choice of blue.

I look forward to your reply.

Re: Changing the original ZenCart color

The Classic template, as it exists in the stock Zen Cart download, is a mishmash of files meant to ease the transition to version 1.3.x for users upgrading old versions. It still uses many, many tables for layout instead of relying on the current CSS standards. In the future, it will no longer be compatible and will eventually have to be replaced. It's a bad idea to start a new store with that template.

If you like the Classic look, there are CSS-based templates in Downloads that replicate it and will be forward compatible.

Re: Changing the original ZenCart color

Thank you for that great reply and clarification. I appreciate it.

You stated "there are CSS-based templates in Downloads that replicate it and will be forward compatible". How can i tell which templates are "CSS-based" and "forward compatible"
Thanks. I look forward to your reply.

Re: Changing the original ZenCart color

The Classic XHTML template in Downloads is the one you probably want to look at.

I think most of the new templates are CSS-based, or will say what they are in the description. You can always ask in the support thread for a template.

Re: Changing the original ZenCart color

Thanks for your help.

I have upgraded my Classic to ClasssicX.

Can someone tell me, please, how to change all the horizontal bars from the original classic orange/brown to blue.

Thank you.

Re: Changing the original ZenCart color

For graphic images, you have two options. You'd need a graphics program first. Open the tile_back jpg in photoshop or whatever, pick a color/shade that you want and use the 'color' mode on the paintbrush. Basically, you will be changing the color while keeping the 3d effect. Upload and overwrite the original and you will have the new color. The other option is to make your own(with the same file name/dimensions) and then upload and overwrite the original.

I would suggest using Candied Apple, I designed it as an upgraded version of Classic XHTML. It's based in red, but I have the original graphic images and I'm willing to help you convert it to blue. I may just contribute a blue version for the fun of it.

Re: Changing the original ZenCart color

You're welcome. That blue one is done and ready for downloading. In 'downloads' , it's called Candied Blueberry. I hope it's kind of what you are looking for.
