New UK Royal Mail weights & sizes causing problems

Does anyone have any ideas on how to combat the new UK Royal Mail system that includes both weight and package sizes?

My packages range from very tiny through to quite chunky so encorporate all three sizes (each of which has its own price range).

I was very pleased with my old system - it was working beautifully - I had postage rates set up for all over the world, BFPO addresses and 3 choices for inland delivery and they have to bu**er it up by changing their pricing system!

You could change the words lb and lbs in the shipping php pages to Ref: this renders the numbers as just that reference numbers.. Then you could set up a table using the reference numbers as indexes. that way you could then determine the cost of each package that you ship and give it a reference number which would show up in the checkout box and shipping estimator as a set cost for each of the goods. I think if you do this in acending order it would also be acumulative so you could tweek it to work fine.

You may like to put somthing in your shipping terms and conditions file to explain why you are using reference numbers. Somthing like - We are using a shipping reference number index system due to changes in the UK postal service charging structure which is now based on the size and weight of packages sent.

further clarification. under the old system you would have say weight >=1.00lb = £1.50 weight >=2lbs = £3.00 and so on. change the lbs to Ref: create your talble 1.00=£1.50 1.5=£3.00 2.00 =£4.50 and so on. Then cost your package under the new size/weight structure, say it cost £4.50 just enter a reference of 2.00 in what was the weight box in admin. presto you have it working.
