Additional product images don't show up?

Hi gang,

I've read this post:

...and meticulously followed it, as far as I can tell. But only one image still shows up on my product pages, not the additonal two images which I put in the "medium" and "large" folders within the "images" folder. They start with the same filename as the basic image. (this name is listed under "products image" on my product info page in the Admin).

The additional images are actually photos of product options (colour, material) and my intention is to have them on several different pages to illustrate the options.

I've checked everything over several times and can't see what the problem is.

Is there anything else I need to do to get the additional images to show up, or should it just happen "auto-magically"? I thought it was the latter... I'm baffled... and have probably overlooked something obvious!

Did you ftp the additional images into your shopping cart? Zencart doesn't automatically do that.

Oh yes, in fact that's all I did!

I earlier added the first (currently the only) product image by going to the product page (in Admin of course) and under Products Image choosing the appropriate file (and the appropriate location from the popup). But I was under the impression that FTP'ing correctly named files to the images directory and subdirectories would add them automatically to the product pages...

I originally put JPEGs there and thought the differing file types might be a problem... other images are still in that format... but at any rate, nothing shows up.

Actually I believe you don't even need the medium sized images for the extra images. Because the small sizes showup automatically, and then the larger size will be used when you "click to enlarge"

The problem is ... you are misunderstanding what images work where ...

small images - all over the site

medium images - 1 for product _info page

large images - 1 for product _info when clicking on medium image on product _info page

additional small images - as many as you want on product _info

additional large images - as many as you want to match additional small images on product _info

NOTE: 1 medium image ... not multiple medium images

I see upon looking at the original article that it does indeed say exactly what you said about file paths... not surprising since you wrote it!

i still don't get it. For example, i have front, back and side views of my item, how do i display them on the web? Can someone kind enuff to give me clear instructions? tks a lot...

You load the Product's base image when adding/editing a Product ...

You load medium, large, additional and additional large images via FTP with the correct naming conventions and in the correct paths and they will automatically be detected ...

I select 1 picture using the browse button and then click preview and then list.... where and what do I do with the other 2 pictures...?? You mention about FTP the files up with conveentions...?? :blink:

You don't upload the extra images via the product page.

You use an FTP program or the control panel of your site to upload them to the correct folder.

Zen cart is "magical" in that simply naming the images a certain way makes them "Belong" together in a certain product.

Like Ajeh said, if the main image that you uploaded when adding the product is named:

calicocat.jpg

and it is now in the folder:
images/

Just by having these images with the same beginning like this (see how they all start with calicocat_):
/images/calicocat_01.jpg
/images/calicocat_abc.jpg
/images/calicocat_left.jpg
/images/calicocat_right.jpg
/images/calicocat_back.jpg

Will AUTOMATICALLY make them associated with the product that has the image "calicocat.jpg".

So then the extra images will BAM be there once they are uploaded.

Try naming the first image that is loaded with the product:
massr.jpg

Then add the additional images as:
massr_01.jpg
massr_02.jpg

The name change is to trigger a few things ...

This is the base name of your image for this product ...
massr.jpg

So that means it "owns" all images that start with:
massr

and have the extention of .jpg

Now any other image that starts with that base image name:
massr and has the extention of .jpg belongs to this Product ...

The filenames:
massr**_01.jpg
massr_02**.jpg

Is for sorting purposes ... the images are loaded alpha/numeric so that you can actually determin the display order by their names ...

NOTE: A product has
1 base image calicocat.jpg which goes in /images or /images/something

1 medium image calicocat_MED.jpg which goes in /images/medium or /images/medium/something

1 large image calicocat_LRG.jpg which goes in /images/large or /images/large/something

unlimited additional images:
calicocat_01.jpg
calicocat_02.jpg
calicocat_abc.jpg
calicocat_123.jpg
which go in /images or /images/something (just like the base image)

unlimited additional large images matching the unlimited additional images
calicocat_01_LRG.jpg
calicocat_02_LRG.jpg
calicocat_abc_LRG.jpg
calicocat_123_LRG.jpg
which goes in /images/large or /images/large/something just like the base image's _LRG image did ...
