Moving the Search box

Is it possible to move the Search box from the right column to the left column, on the index page? And then have no columns on the right?

Thanks. I look forward to any help.

Re: Moving the Search box

you can change the position of any of the sideboxes in admin/layout box controller. click on the box you want to edit in the list and then click edit. you change which side its on or your can shut off the boxes.
hope that helps

Re: Moving the Search box

All of the Sideboxes can be configured for their column as well as for the sort order in the Tools ... Layout Boxes Controller ...

Then, you can turn off the Right Column on the Global setting in the Configuration ... Layout Settings ...

Re: Moving the Search box

Ajeh or whom ever may know the answer, I know this is an old post. Perhaps you can answer a question that pertains to it. I copied> <?php require(DIR_WS_MODULES . 'sideboxes/search_header.php'); ?> from the tpl_cataegories.php page and pasted it into my tpl_header.php because I wanted to have the search function in a different area of my site rather than the right or left sideboxes.

My issue is, I want to keep my right global column on but when i do, the search shows up there also. what code do i place in my tpl_header so i can keep the search box there aqnd keep my right column on without showing the search box in the right column.

Thanks,
Slabadoo

Re: Moving the Search box

This sounds like what you wanted to do was turn on search_header.php in Admin/Tools/Layout boxes controller.

Re: Moving the Search box

I did this but it shows up in the right hand column. My goal is to move the search function into my header. I can do that but from my last post, I don't think the call i am using is correct. I tworks but shows up in both the right column and in the header. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

In Layout boxes controller, search_header.php should have Left/Right column status set to off and Single column status set to on.> slabadoo:

Re: Moving the Search box

And make sure you have search.php set to off for both Left/Right column status and Single column status.

Re: Moving the Search box

Glad I was able to help. I still overlook the obvious on a daily basis. I'm glad someone had the verbal know-how to name it "Zen-Cart" -- reminds me to keep my mind in beginner's mode.

Re: Moving the Search box

There was nothing to paste. Solution is in the ensuing posts:> In Layout boxes controller, search_header.php should have Left/Right column status set to off and Single column status set to on. And (to remove the search sidebox) make sure you have search.php set to off for both Left/Right column status and Single column status.> cariclaire:

Re: Moving the Search box

I tried that, it made the search box disappear alltogether...

I'm trying to move the search box to the empty space under the "Account Login/Register...etc" box in the top RH corner. Check it out here http://www.thriftytots.ca

Re: Moving the Search box

Thanks for the link: I see what you mean now.

Zen-Cart has two Search elements.

  • search_header.php -- When enabled in Layout Boxes Controller, this displays in the page header -- next to the Home and Log-in links.
  • search.php -- When enabled in Layout Boxes Controller, this displays a sidebox. When I look at your site, I notice the customary Home and Log-in links are missing from your page header. Is it possible this entire section was removed from your custom template, and with it, the code for displaying the search_header?

Compare your custom header template to the default header template. In the default, look for class="headerNavigation" -- then copy and paste as necessary so that the search_header appears in your custom header template.> cariclaire:

Re: Moving the Search box

Ok so my,

search.php is set to OFF 0 0 OFF yet it still is showing up on the right hand side.

Can you tell me what the issue might be on why it's not updating?

Re: Moving the Search box

Check the settings on the search_header.php sidebox ... make sure you do not have anything enabled for the right column ...
