Able To Write keeps showing up on all pages

Ever since I upgraded to the new version of ZC, I've been getting this error at the top of all my pages:

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/..../includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file (read-only, CHMOD 644 or 444 are typical).

That file is CHMOD 644. I've tried changing it to 444 as well, but the error message will not go away. Is there something else about the directory (.htaccess or something) that is showing the file as improperly CHMOD?

:(

Thanks much,
ND

Re: Able To Write keeps showing up on all pages

When you try changing it to 444, does it "stick" or does it stay as 644?
If it stays as 644, then you will need to use your host's control panel to change it. Usually they offer a File manager tool which has an option to change file permissions. (Sometimes they restrict FTP programs and disallow you from setting files down to 444 or else your FTP program won't be able to touch the file later.)

No, the 444 won't stick. But what it resets to is 644, which is still safe according to the error code...so I'm not sure why the message keeps popping up.

I've never had a problem with CHMODs not sticking before, so I'll do what you suggested and see if that works.

Edit:

I guess this is why you're sensei :) It worked once I changed the permissions via the host control panel. Thank you!!

Re: Able To Write keeps showing up on all pages

I've had similar problems with my site. I found that if I went into my control panel, accessed the files from there and changed them, then this message disappeared. In the control panel, you'll probably find that the permissions hadn't actually changed.

Good luck!
