Maximum characters allowed in textarea attribute doesn't count

Hi, I need someone help me. I'm just making now my store and set attributes for each product type. I make an attribute for client introduce instructions about how personalize the product, the attribute option type is a textarea with 100 characters maximum allowed, but the count does'nt function ok. Please can someone tell me how can't I solve this problem?

What version of Zen Cart are you in?

Zen Cart v1.3.x introduced input or text area ...

Have you peeked at what happens if you read that note on the Option Names Manager page about:
NOTE: Edit Product Options Name for additional settings
