Easy Populate Category Change

Easy Populate may be the greatest thing since HTML and sliced bread, but I'm having trouble getting it to change categories on a big scale. Please help me figure what's wrong with this picture...: :dontgetit

I currently have almost all of my produacts in one category, which is presently "For Pets". Obviously not waht I want...

I'm trying to use easy populate to sort my products into the right category.

So I change the category on the txt file, upload and import my exstore_XXX.txt file and this is what I get (for a majority of the products):

SKIPPED! - Product Index: 21 - no such current category path for this existing product

What am I doing wrong? Anyone? I've attached a copy of my .txt files just for kicks.

Thanks!!!

Re: Easy Populate Category Change

EP is great for managing products.
Managing links to categories ... is another story.
EP will link a product to additional categories nicely ... and will import new products into a category nicely.
But moving it around is more challenging.

To move one you have to do an add and a delete, as I understand it.

Perhaps this may work:```
v_products_model v_status v_category_1 v_category_2
ABCDEF 1 Widgets NewSubcategory
ABCDEF 9 OldCategory

Langer could correct me if I'm wrong ...

Re: Easy Populate Category Change

I think you're right. Thanks for the info about moving to different categories.

I was just reading the article on running it all from an Excel Spreadsheet, and that appeals to me. I couldn't quite figure it out, but I like the concept.

Since I have most of the info already on the site, perhaps using Excel/OpenOffice would be a better way of moving the information around. The data will be shared across more than one site (i.e. products, ID's, inventory, descriptions, ....), so if I could take care of it all on one excel file, life would be great.

I notified langer re: this post, and I'll be using his talents for an hour or 2 in the near future.

Re: Easy Populate Category Change

this is actually God send for me... I have tons of products.... moving them around is definately a pain.... 1 question.... can you delete them and move them to another category without deleting the picture?

i had to re upload the pics after I did that....

thanks.....
